Pregnacare doesn't have calcium?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and have been taking my Pregnacare supplements religiously throughout, but it's only recently that I've had a good hard look at the box (had only really checked for folic acid before). I was very surprised to see that it doesn't contain any calcium!

As all the nutrition advice seems to talk about the importance of keeping your calcium levels up, I'm quite confused. Anyone know of any reason why they don't include it? Is it like vit A which is bad in large doses? Are separate calcium supplements a bad idea?

I know it's best to get your nutrients from your diet, and I try very hard (and succeed quite well so far) in eating a balanced diet, but I do like to use the supplements as a safety net - just to make sure little one (and me!) are not missing out on anything. Now I feel gypped!

I have a vague memory of reading that calcium and iron suplements shouldn't be taken at the same time so that might explain why its not in Pregnacare.

Just thought I'd follow up, in case someone had the same question in future.

Looking at the Pregnacare website, they claim that they don't put in calcium because "it is not possible to include a meaningful amount in a one-a-day multivitamin tablet", i.e. it needs to be taken throughout the day - and so they recommend their separate Osteocare range which is in 2 separate tablets. I confirmed with my midwife that there was no reason I could not to take a calcium supplement as well if I felt more comfortable.

Again, best to try to get your calcium from your diet, but if you decide to use supplements just be aware Pregnacare doesn't cover you...
