this is emotionally v heavy duty as have been trying for 2 years with a miscarriage in between s o here goes:

tested this morning, one day late, used those cheapy tests from asda, dipstick...obvious (but faint) line indicating preg.

then used clearblue digital: not preg.

can you get a false positive on a preg test.

think that the asda ones are 25mg (or whatever that measure is) sensitive, wondering if the clearblue ones are as sensitive.

I am FREAKING OUT...want to be preg so badly, and am so confused by this...

tested again with an asda one later in the morning and it was neg...but not first wee of the day (the wee was v pale whereas first wee was dark (sorry for tmi).

am i deluding myself or could i be early preg?

CB digital used to be less sensitive than others - 50 mg if I remember correctly. I am not sure of that now. Also sometimes tests are 'at least' 25 mg or whatever but could well pick up 10 mg. Thats why sometimes you get a negative and a positive at the same time. First moring urine can make all the difference at this stage.

I know how stressful this situation can be (see my very long other thread and I wasnt even trying / wanting). Of course you could be pregnant...but it could just be too early. I am presuming you havent got any spotting or your period?

Its really hard isnt it and must be a million times harder in your situation.

Could be pregnant, lots of people have said that the cb digitals gave bfn when cheaper ones were bfp. Also did you poas rather than dip with the cb, could make a difference, could be wrong but think it's better to dip. Good luck anyway fingers crossed for you.

today is going to be so hard...i'll be knicker checking all day!

i expect i'm going to be disappointed...but the hope is hard to kill once you've seen that line...

Go get a first response

V sensitive and reliable and you can use anytime of the day

babyboom1979 · 07/11/2009 09:21

I would wait 4 hrs and then test again. Four hrs is sufficient time for your urine to be concentrated enough for another home pregnancy test.

What I did last time was pee in a cup and dip TWO different brands at the same time. Instructions in all hpt's will tell you how long to dip for. If you get two positives there will be no more room for doubt!

Incidentally, I found the first response tests to be the least sensitive for me. CB digi and Sainsbury's own brand picked up my pregnancy the earliest.

Btw, there is no such thing as a false positive -- a line is a line (unless it is an evaporation one that is).

Women usually confuse false positives with chemical pregnancies i.e. they get a positive and a few days later their period arrives. This happens when an embryo does not implant properly. The body recognises that the embryo is not viable and the lining of the womb is shed a few days later.

Hang in there and I'll be sending you loads of positive vibes.

Let us know soonest!!

It must be very difficult for you - bad enough at the best of times. It is positive that you have not had a period though.

What test did you use today? Can you try and wait until tomorrow morning? Or get a cheap sainsburys one?

yesthisisanamechange · 07/11/2009 12:31

thanks peppa, think I should hold off testing til tomorrow morning tbh!

I think that would be best but I know how absolutely addictive it is. I keep a stash of ebay cheapies for times like this and can do one hourly a couple of times a day then

Let us know what happens - fingers crossed!

yesthisisanamechange · 07/11/2009 15:52

they"re all neg since this am

I had almost the exact thing happen to me with Dd2 cheap sainsburys test showed possitive early but digital showed neagtive. It took about another week to get a cb digital to show positive although had bought cheap ebay ones that showed faint positives all that week. I put it down to the digital one not being as sensitive.

yesthisisanamechange · 08/11/2009 18:42

period came. oh well.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 08/11/2009 20:24

I am so sorry. . Are you sure it is your period? Did you test again today?

The same thing happened to me this weekend. I wasnt trying and was very shocked by the idea of a baby but still feel miserable so I cannot imagine how sad you must feel.

whiskymiller · 02/12/2009 15:35

It's so hard to know which test to use.

I have done three tests with clearblue and they have all come back positive. I had a slight bleed for two days got worried and have done two cheapo sainsburys tests after both said negative!

I'm gutted but at the back of my mind just don't trust the sainsburys ones so am going to do a clearblue one tonight, fingers crossed!

iateallthecreameggsyummy · 02/12/2009 16:24

Good luck for tonight whisky - hope you get the result your after.

FabIsVeryHappy · 02/12/2009 16:27

Good luck. I did 5 tests one month and 6 the following month. It really is addictive. Even DH was getting obsessed.
