I suffered hyperemisis with DD last time until 18 weeks and it took me 2 years to even think about being pregnant again because even though everyone tells you 'no 2 pregnancies are the same' I knew in my heart that I'd be sick again and I dreaded it. I'm now 12 weeks and have been constantly nauseous since 5/6weeks so I have much sympathy for all you ladies out there feeling the same. I couldn't go to work either and unsurprisingly my contract wasn't renewed! I find it exhausting heaving and just feeling sick every waking hour and then I get down because I can't look after my DD properly, thankfully I have DH, family willing to travel and nursery so I know she's ok but I feel like I should be stronger and keep going but I can't, i just want to lie down.

fakeblondie I never usually drink coke either but damn it it seems to help, albeit only for a little bit - DH bought me a pack of 6 cans yesterday as i kept sending him to the shop. Green & Blacks 70% Dark chocolate is also good and contains iron apparently! I have tried the icepops that jlo1234 mentioned, they're called lillipops and like everything they help...for a bit.

sorry that was a bit of a rant for my first ever posting but as sorry as I'm that we're all feeling horrible and miserable it's just nice to know that it's not just me. I hope you all start feeling better soon xxx

I ate plain doritos with dairylea on THE WHOLE TIME that I was feeling sick. (I am coeliac so toast/ginger biscuits were out).

Nothing wrong with diet coke as long as you brush your teeth. It actually is good for pukers because it replaces mineral salts that you are losing.

Don't feel bad about anything that you fancy - anything you can keep down is doing you some good.

Just don't start craving toffee apples/chips with ice cream like I am now....

Sympathies to all. Found the worst week to be 12-13, and went down to a manageable level at 16 weeks. Last pg I drank Pepsi every day (ordinary too as I didn't know about the caffeine being bad then) and ds is fine. Haven't wanted it this time but if I did, I would choose caffeine-free and use a straw to minimise damage to teeth. You just have to go with whatever you can manage and it is important to stay hydrated (esp for keeping colds, etc. at bay).

This time: cup-a-soup, decaff coffee, plain hot water, iced water (boiled, cooled and put in fridge), and my favourite for getting rid of that yukky taste, grapefruit juice - lovely and sour. Mashed potato heavenly, also very nice made into bubble and squeak. Heinz tomato soup lovely too (and half-counts as a drink surely?). And tinned sweetcorn. And cashew nuts. Went off chocolate but have discovered Green & Blacks Maya Gold flavour also covers taste in mouth. As does regular spoonfuls of Gaviscon. Two weeks to go then never again!

strawberry angel delight was the only thing i kept down for 3 days around week 10, still of red meat, i cant stand the taste! weird as i normally would kill for a roast beef dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am also just over 6 weeks and feel awful, much much worse than I did with dd1. All I want to eat is junk, crisps, pizza etc. But as soon as I eat i feel worse so is a struggle to get that down.

honeymoonmum I wish i could offer some tips but am also really struggling to look after a very active 2 year old while feeling this rubbish. Fresh air seems to help so we have been spending a lot of time in the park. Does help that we live in Portugal where it is a bit warmer! Just hoping that it gets better as I cannot handle 9 months of feeling like this.

fakeblondie · 06/11/2009 11:28

Well last night mashed potato AGAIN, but with a little bit of steak pie and peas. Felt so much better for eating something.
Work was awful-had to tell my collegue too.
Find satsumas help too as some fluid and puts nice fresh taste in your mouth xHope everyones managing today . x

Having the worst day so far in this pregnancy,. have already been sick 6 times and my dd keeps asking me what is wrong!! Bless. Fakeblondie I have also found that satsumas help. leaves a fresh feeling and taste in my mouth. My biggest problem is I just dont feel like eating anything now and I know I have to. Am also really worried about getting weak and having such a bad diet as want to keep as healthy as possible to avoid swine flu!

Finally cracked yesterday and got diet coke. really helps. Why is it the bad stuff that makes us feel better!!

sausagesupper · 06/11/2009 13:57

Would definately second the diet coke, I am desparate for it, nothing else hits the spot. I'm not sure if I have sickness or indigestion or both. I feel sooooooo thirsty all the time and only diet coke will fix it. If I drink water or juice or anthing else I want to puke. Gavsicon sometimes helps but only lasts a while then it comes back.
BTW sorry if TMI but when you're actually sick, are you throwing up food or just water and liquid? Most of the time I just throw up liquid and the food stays down...

Elizap · 06/11/2009 19:32

sausagesupper it tends to be just liquid and thankfully the food stays down! and I totally agree, juice, squash, water just makes me sick. only diet coke will do. on a happier note just came back from a scan and heard the heartbeat for the first time. baby is 6 weeks and 3 days old!!! doctor gave me some anti nausea pills to take but said they might make me sleepy!! just what I need with a 2 year old in the house!

daffodilli · 06/11/2009 20:09

Strawberry complan and Listerine were my survival items! Complan will give extra cals and vitamins if it stays down, and Listerine was brilliant for the horrible taste in the mouth. Non food survival item was Original Source Lemon shower gel, takes away the sicky feeling for a few mins!! Best of luck

sausagesupper · 07/11/2009 13:53

forgot to add am 18 weeks and sooooo fed up of this feeling, it's worse than normal heartburn, I had that with last 2 pregnancies. Never mind, will all be worth it in the end!!

fakeblondie · 11/11/2009 14:26

Tried the listerine and it near burnt my mouth off !
Egg on toast is apparently good-am going to try tonight x

Am desperately trying to find something to drink.
I have tried everything i can think of , but any fluid is making me wretch, sometimes even thinking about it .
Anything friuty is out as is tea and coffee milk pop. Am sipping iced water but even that makes me wretch.
x
