nice & comfy pyjamas!

blueberrysorbet · 01/11/2009 20:13

i wore a huge maternity dress and a big smile. plus a toddler clinging to my leg.

dh had to yell for a wheelchair after 20 yards as i had had a cs and discovered i couldnt walk very far it hurt too much. and in fact planned to lay in agony in the corridor til one arrived.

so was accessorised with ancient wobbly wheelchair with tiny frail lady helper pushing it (bless) as dh had the baby and we were too scared of wobbly wheelchair to let me hold dd...

homebirth - no need to dress for ages

MustNotEatCake · 01/11/2009 21:02

everyone should take their inspiration from this woman - she is an example to us all

mrswill · 01/11/2009 21:05

Wore what i went in with as the stuff id taken in didnt fit.

Had an even bigger bump coming out, due to swelling because of the drugs they used, and a after a rough EMCS. Anything even touching my stomach would be painful. Did take in my pre pregnancy jeans, and heels - WTF was i thinking!

MadameDuBain · 01/11/2009 21:13

Me too - NO ONE TOLD ME I would have a huge bump after the birth so I naively packed my favourite jeans and a nice little fitted t-shirt. The jeans wouldn't go on at all and when I put the t-shirt on it covered about the top 5th of my bump. So it was back into my maternity stuff that had sat around being smelly for 5 days (after EMCS). Not what I planned at all. Accessorised of course with those gigantic netting knickers you get after a CS, trailing out of my clothes.

So this time I will just take maternity jeans and long tunic top I think, but have them clean and ready. It will not be a fashion moment but at least I won't smell.

I wore jogging bottoms and a loose fitting top - although just to warn I had to have an emergency section due to pre-eclampsia - so was in hospital a while, but the swelling from the PET combined with the awful section caused me to SWELL... I couldn't get even the knickers i wore while pregnant much further than my knees lukcly my mum went out and brought some granny knickers about 4 sizes bigger than normal so were comfy and came up well above my section scar! never expected this in a million years!!! I was mortified!

Black velour joggers, maternity vest, flip flops oh and very big comfy pants

reservejudgement · 01/11/2009 23:50

If you are intending to bf DO NOT do what I did on ds1! Which was to wear a lovely floaty loose-fitting ( I was being realistic!) dress with wait for it, no breastfeeding access! So had to endure screeching hungry baby all the way home because we couldn't pull over to feed him or I would have been feeding him in just knickers!

I wore some nice and comfy black pyjamas bottoms (with matching wrap around top and white vest from mothercare) which look more like something you'd hang around in in your house on a sunday evening than something you'd sleep in iyswim.

And some trainers you can wear without the laces on. It took 2 weeks for my ankles to deflate. One morning I just woke up and my ankles were completely normal again.
I wish my belly had done the same!! 4 months on and I'm still wearing leggins only and maternity tops

If you are having a cesarean then anything that requires bending (like putting socks or tights on) is out of the question.
Big stretchy knickers and big maternity pads.
bit of mascara to make me feel a little more femine, but after a c-section it took me the whole 6 weeks to feel "better".

bebejones · 02/11/2009 08:32

I had been prepared with the nicest of my maternity clothes and fancy flip flops (summer baby) but ended up in pyjama bottoms, as I just couldn't bend properly (major bruising from epidural on my back) and one of DH's t-shirts! It had also been heaving it down monsoon style with rain so the flip flops were out but actually could only get my slippers on and even that was only over my toes as my feet were so swollen, no one warned me about that!

WowOoo · 02/11/2009 10:40

I honestly can't remember and it was only 4 months ago.

Comfy maternity stuff prob.

Moth2 · 03/11/2009 15:11

Well hello all - how nice to find you! Haven't actually got a baby yet, another 3 months to go but following terrifying trip to John Lewis with my Mother (who alienated all the shop assistants within 5 seconds of arrival 'incompetent' and 'clueless' being just the beginning of the tirade) I have started to panic and so came here...

I am planning to look utterly fabulous after the birth and have already begun packing my hospital bag with all sorts of necessities including my going home outfit which is currently including a wrap maternity dress, a pair of hold ups (winter you know) and a fetchingly stylish chunky knit cardigan with matching boots. Also having now read this thread I will be packing a belly band to hold it all in - think it'll work?

Quite obviously I will leave this at home and have to depart wearing whatever has been left in lost property.

Will let you know how it goes.

star6 · 03/11/2009 15:31

Good luck with that, Moth2. I'm sure you WILL look fab if you plan to do so. I went into labour 2 weeks earlier than my due date and was so frazzled by it all. I was so uncomfortable and in pain afterward that I honestly couldn't be bothered to put anything on. Like I said before, the only thing that I cared about was that precious baby. I knew everyone was staring at him, not me anyway. And I thought he was the most beautiful thing in the world.... 13 months later, I still do

reservejudgement · 04/11/2009 12:40

Moth2, Clevermummy.co.uk usually do a wrap dress which you can also breastfeed in. And you will never have to brave john Lewis again!

jo4nn492 · 27/04/2020 09:53

Hi,
I will be having a summer baby. I am looking to pack for me... comfy nursing dress, flip flops, joggers, leggings, 2 tops (nursing or baggy), trainers. Does this sound okay? What size joggers should I pack (I was size 10/12 before pregnancy)?

TobysMum16 · 27/04/2020 11:07

I wore a maternity maxi dress. It was a really hot June day though. I felt comfortable but was also happy with the arriving home photo my husband took.

MichelleOR84 · 27/04/2020 16:52

I wore maternity leggings and a maternity tunic top. They were perfect as I looked 5 months pregnant for the first week anyway!

Wear something comfy for sure and remember your body doesn’t bounce back right away !
