didn't realise i was pregnant until 5 weeks (now 10 weeks) - a bit of a surprise - reckon had eaten chicken livers at least 3 times and pate 3-4 times (we had a lot in the house). Really worried. Is this the worst time to have eaten it? Will any defects show up in the 12 wk scan or not til 20 weeks? Anything I can do - havent touched it since

Hi i have eaten the whole plate of barbecued liver yesterday while im 29th weeks pregnant. I didn't know its bad for pregnancy.... now I'm too scared. Is everything gonna be ok? Plz help

you'll be OK. Vitamin A accumulates in your body so if you kept eating large amounts of liver every day for months then you might end up having a problem. But just once is not going to hurt anything. Just try to be mindful of steering clear if it's something that worries you. I personally feel comfortable with eating liver every now and again in pregnancy.

Hi @Lisapreg and others, just wondered what the outcome was? As I have just done the same! I’m 5 weeks and just ate chicken liver pate on toast without thinking (as I’m trying to distract myself from being pregnant after previous miscarriages and haven’t been thinking about it). I suddenly realised as I was 3/4 of the way through and was hit by a wave of guilt and stupidity. Hoping it will be okay but can’t help worrying.

@CountryGirl84 you’ll be absolutely fine, the risk is minimal, many countries still eat pate throughout pregnancy with no issues. There’s a very small chance of listeria but how many people do you know that have had listeria from pate. The other risk is vitamin A but you’d need to eat large amounts regularly for there to be a problem.
