Just tested positive yesterday - very early days but cautiously over the moon. However, have bosses leaving night on Friday, friends emigration party in 2 weeks time then a couple of Christmas nights out I have already agreed to attend.

So what will my reasons for abstaining from booze - which is highly irregualr for me at a social event and bound to be noticed. Can't imagine getting a scan until the new year - how will I keep this up! Any inventive ideas?

If they're bar events, make sure you buy all your own drinks and pretend that the lemonade you're drinking is actually G&T. If you don't bring it up, chances are people won't ask (especially if they are pissed).

Otherwise you could go the trusty antibiotics route, or say you're detoxing as part of a pre-Christmas/NYE crash diet.

Oh, and congratulations!

Congratulations! Last week I had been having lemondade and passing it off as a Vodka lemonade, this week Ive been on anti-biotics for a genuine Kidney infection, fortunatly my friends havent asked any more. Good luck with the parties

and offer to drive a lot

no-one questions a non-drinker who is giving them a lift

BlueChampagne · 28/10/2009 15:00

Alternatively, volunteer to drive? And congratulations!

Thanks girls - just finished a well documented course of anti biotics so that's out. Since having my first DD a few years back I don't get out much so when I do I take full advantage! Might order some Virgin Mary's - good thinking.

I do alot of "driving" : some how its always my turn to drive and my dh's turn to drink. alternatively I drink G+Ts which are lemonade. If I'm being really desperate, I'll accept a wine and lose it/spend all night with it.
Congratulations!!

Same as above, I was under antibiotics (even if you finished a course, it can still work as the infection can still be there!), be the designated driver and I only learnt about the G&T Lemonade once I didn't needed it (but will still keep it in mind.
Another good one is that you are trying to lose some weight before Xmas in order to fit in a lovely dress you've seen and decided to give up alcohol to fit in it!
Congratulations and good luck

Non-alcoholic cocktails are the way forward, and they taste nicer than just lemonade. I got away with it at a number of work events in early stages. Virgin Mojitos look and taste (well almost) like the real thing!
