Red blood this morning, really worried. Am away in Brighton for a few hours - who can i see where can i go? Please help

Am 8+6.

Had some dark brown discharge a couple of weeks ago, doc said dont worry about it. This morning had some bright red blood when i wiped. Not a continual flow, after 3 wipes (sorry tmi) there was nothign more to see. Really scared.
Darent go to the loo again.

To compliacte matters I am not at home but several hundred miles away in Brighton.

What to do wise MNers?

Could you phone NHS Direct and ask for advice?

I would probably call my own midwifery team and ask them what to do. If they think you need to see someone they may well liaise with services in Brighton to set that up for you, or at least tell you where to go?

How worrying for you. Do try and stay as relaxed as you can... is anyone with you?

Ring the local hospital and ask if they have an epu and could see you as a walk in appt?

When is your 12 week scan booked for? (you are 11 weeks pg now?)

Unless it's changed, Brighton don't do walk in at their EPAU, and it was not very good either.

When will you be home ? If it'll be tomorrow, I'd phone your GP and ask them if they can get you an appt at your local EPAU - usually takes a few days for an appt anyway

No, in theory not home till sunday. Supposed to be going to southampton tomorrow.

Probably not v helpful, but could you get the fast train to London and go to St Thomas's (near Waterloo / Westminster) where there is an excellent EPAU where you can wait for a scan? I went when I was 6+5 after v strange pains which led me to worry it was ectopic. I was seen within 30 minutes, scanned and reassured everything was ok. It might be worth the trip if you are really worried? You could just say you were in London working. I am not registered at St Thomas's, by the way, and they still saw me. Hope you are OK.

You probably know, but London only 45 mins from Brighton by train.

Worthing Hospital (drive along the coast road from Brighton in a westerly direction for about 10 minutes) has an EPU. I know - I was there myself once.

But I am sure the Royal Sussex would have one too. Could you take yourself to A&E and ask there?

I would phone gps and see what EPAU procedure is in your area, it seems to vary dramatically (in my area the wouldnt see you unless much heavier bleeding/combined with stomach pains by gp referral, whereas in others it is walk in and you would be seen)

The one in Worthing is definitely walk in, or was 7 years ago when I was pregnant - oh that is some time ago now isn't it?

If I were in your position, I would go to A&E even though it may not feel that serious at the moment. They will probably be quiet at this time of day and someone will be able to advise you.

i had bleeding at almost exactly the same date - probably a few tablespoons full. I was also away from home, on a conference. There was a gp there who made me rest for the remainder of the day (about 10 hours), so that i wouldn't feel that I had done anything over the top, athough resting or not makes no difference - nothing you do can affect the baby's health.

I eventually went to a walk in at hosptial at home 6 days later, and all was fine (they did a scan immediately). People assured me that this often happens at about 8 weeks. If you can't get to a hospital today, just try to take it as easy as you can. I'm sure it will be fine for you.

No help, but wanted to offer a little reassurance that I had similar at around the same time with my pregnancies. Is it around the time that your period normally would be?

Thanks all for your advice, am now a bit less hysterical! Have spoken t o someone at Worthing who says if I have any more bleeding or sharp pain to go in/scan first thing toorrow.
I will take it easy today with my fingers crossed that all is not lost. I think i am more freaked because I didnt have any bleeding at all with DD1.

No more red blood loss, but tiny amount of dark brown discharge.

Yes Tobermory, I am sure it is. My bleeding came after the cessation of mild morning sickness (it turned out I was losing an undeveloped twin - the other baby was fine and now aged 6).
