I'm nearly 19 weeks and have gained just over a stone. Feel like a complete lard arse especially as I don't even look pregnant, just fat, like I'm carrying an extra stone of fat!!!

I made a point not to weigh myself until about a year after giving birth.

This time round, I gave in and peeked, and wished I hadn't!

You'll look pregnant soon! In the meantime, just enjoy the freedom to munch!

Gangle · 26/10/2009 14:01

Wish I hadn't! I didn't show with DS until over 6 months. Thought I would show sooner with DC2 but clearly not. Hope to "pop out" in the next few weeks. Don't mind looking pregnant but do mind looking fat!

Just worry that if I don't check I will wake up one morning and find I've put on 2 stone overnight! I feel better keeping a check on it as I am so greedy and piggy at the moment things could get out of hand and a good scare might make me exercise a bit of restraint. I put on between 1.5 and 2 stones with DS and see no need to put on more tham that this time although my starting weight this time was 1/2 a stone lower than when I got pregnant with DS. I seem to pile on loads in the first 3 months then it slows to 1 - 1.5 pounds per week - does anyone else find this?

Definitely step away from the scales!!

I am going to be 19 weeks on Wednesday with DC2, and I have not been near the scales since I found out I was pregnant. I know from my ante-natal appointments that I am far heavier that I wish to be, but that is probably down to the smokey bacon crisps and donut cravings I have been having

I definitely look pregnant though, rather than fat (well, perhaps I look pregnant AND fat!). The trouble is, I am looking about 7 months pregnant In fact some woman in M&S looked at me in shock when I said I was due in March and asked if I was expecting twins

Gangle · 26/10/2009 14:16

He he!! Love getting to that stage when you look heavily pregnant - at least then you can go with it a bit more as you look and feel pregnant. I keep forgetting am I and it's harder to do so when you have a big bump in front of you! Think it will all happen in the next month.

I'm also 19 weeks, I've just checked and it's... 1.5 stone! (that's 1.5, not 15 but still...)

But I do have a massive bump and much bigger norks than usual. My clothes still fit elsewhere, so while I feel like a heffalump, and it's officially a lot to have gained, I don't think it's under my control IYSWIM.

Last time I had a MW appointment they weighed me then kind of went "oh well, we don't really worry about that these days" and quickly changed the subject!

MadameDuBain · 26/10/2009 14:21

Rindercella I get the twins thing all the time and did last time as well (neither being twins). Or triplets sometimes!

But at least the big bump and looking pregnant does get you a seat etc.

I'm nearly 18 weeks and I'm watching my weight a bit as the last time I put on loads of weight and felt really heavy and uncomfortable during the later part of pg. It also didn't help my hip pain at all, and that got quite bad towards the end.

I do find that I will have a tendency to gain a lot of weight while pg, which I don't at all when I'm not. I blame the hormones! But watching what I eat has made a difference, I've gained about 8 lbs so far, last time at this stage of pg I was a stone over my pre-pg weight.

I'm still eating an enormous amount (by my standards), just avoiding junk food and deserts.

If my hip pain gets really bad again I will be mightily pissed off though....

PacificWerewolfwoohood · 26/10/2009 14:27

Nope, no weighing here either.

21 weeks now.

Here is a tip: get yourself weighed the day after you have delivered, you will be weighing a ton but a lot of that weight will still be water retention etc, and it will seem like you've lost a stone in the first couple of weeks without any effort at all !

Sariska · 26/10/2009 14:30

I'm 21 weeks pregnant with dc2 and have gained, I think, about 12lbs. Some of it must be bump (it just popped out 2 or 3 weeks ago) but some of it has gone elsewhere. And, frankly, I look much the better for it. I only put on 2 stone last time but lost almost 3, which was not good. Am sure I'm going to put on more than 2 stone this time but don't really mind. It's not for ever and if the constant eating helps with the nausea, that's great. All I am trying to do is limit the junk and eat as healthily as possible. (Query: does fruit cake count as healthy?!? 'tis my craving of the moment.) Anyway, best advice has to be as has already been said is to step away from those scales.

Gangle · 26/10/2009 14:36

I do have a slight bump and enormous boobs but my trousers feel horribly tight and my arse looks big - never ever had a big arse in my life. Agree about weighing yourself as soon as you get home from the hospital - the first stone goes with delivery which last time left a stone to shift which went within about 6 weeks with no effort. Just hope it's the same this time.

im 26 weeks pregnant now & believe it or not i've only gained 2 lb in total. not that i've been dieting or anything, but have been ill with morning sickness & lost half a stone before i was 20wks, but the midwife told me not too be too worried about weight loss, as i seemed to have a baby bump from around 10wks. thankfully i've put that half stone back on now plus 2lb. feel quite lucky as i'd gained 3 stone with my 1st. so this time i wont have too much weight to shift. although xmas is coming up & still plenty time to gain lots. looking forward lots of chocolate in dec.

SianNic · 27/10/2009 13:24

I am 18+3 weeks and have put on nearly a stone! I was on bedrest for nearly a month which didnt help as I am usually very active and unfortunately my appetite didnt subside with my activity levels! Am starting to look pregnant now but have definitely gained inches all around!

whensmydayoff · 27/10/2009 13:50

30 weeks and a stone and 9lbs. I can't remember what I weighed by this point last time and Im not sure if that's good or bad but my legs and ass look horrible. I blame being 5'2 and not my love of cadbury's fruit & nut .
What should you expect to put on in the last 10 weeks then?
I read somewhere 1lb a week from now on is normal (gulp)!

Bettymum · 27/10/2009 14:33

17 weeks and about 5 or 6lbs. I think it's working out at 3lb in each boob .

onemoretimetoday · 27/10/2009 15:17

16 weeks and about 3lb. Lost about 5lb as soon as I was pg and am now about 3lb over my starting weight. I gained about 2 stone with my previous 2 pregnancies and am aiming for similar. Past history was half a stone by 20 weeks and a lb a week after that. I know it shouldn't matter but I felt so much better post pg not having stacks to lose and being able to wear my normal clothes pretty quickly

Neeko · 27/10/2009 21:10

19 weeks today and just under 9lbs so far which I'm pleased with. I put on 3.5-4 stone last time and didn't lose it all so I'm hoping to be better this time. Don't really care how huge I look though as long as the baby is healthy. This is definitely my last so I guess I have the rest of my life to lose it (although by Christmas after this would be good- going by the 9 months on, 9 months off rule)

Rtuff · 28/10/2009 14:48

18 weeks today and so far only 4lbs, i am sooo pleased i put on just over 4 stone last time i went from 7 1/2 upto just over 11 1//2 stone so really hoping not to do that this time! My pre pregnancy weight was 8 stone so now 8.4. Although i have started an addiction to chocolate caramel digestive's mmmmmm yummy!!

allibaba · 28/10/2009 15:57

Am 16+6 and had my mid wife's appointment today. As I don't own a pair of scales (think its a really bad idea to obsess over weight) and had only weighed myself at my mums last week (out of interest of course), I was quite shocked to find that I have apparently put on a stone in the last 7 days!!

Where this stone has come from I have no idea as although the bump is bit bigger, I don't look any different. Can only conclude the following:

  1. All scales are wrong / different
  2. Don't weigh yourself
pecanpie · 28/10/2009 16:21

At 20.5 weeks I'd put on 8 pounds BUT most foods seem to disagree with me and I'm not keeping every meal down... Now 2 weeks later and on a dry cracker diet - think I may lose weight by next weigh in at the doctor!

Glitzymama · 02/05/2011 17:23

I'm 19 weeks and I've put on a stone! I'm obsessed with my weight gain and I jump on the scales everyday. I'm 5ft 1 and any weight gain really shows. My bump is pretty big and people are quite shocked that I'm due in Sept. I'm finding it really hard to adjust to my new body as I feel like a elephant. I don't fit in to any of my old clothes anymore and I can't find nice maternity clothes not to mention maternity underwear!
Is a stone too much at this stage?

discobeaver · 02/05/2011 18:33

It's hard to find official advice about weight gain, I stressed that I was putting on loads, I think I had put on about a stone by 20 ish weeks, and now am 35 weeks it has gone up to two stone - but I have got a lot of amniotic fluid and huge boobs.

I found this little chart on one site (About.com?), and it said about a pound a week for the last two trimesters. Gentle steady weight gain is healthy, though, so don't stress! (you'll only eat more...)

BMI Recommended Weight Gain

30+ 11-20 lbs

25 - 29.9 15-25 lbs

18.6-24.9 25-35 lbs

18.5 and lower 28-40 lbs

RoxiRu · 10/04/2012 10:18

hello everyone. I'm 28, 5'6 and before i fell pregnant i weighed 8st 4lb, slightly under weight. I'm now 17 weeks pregnant and I've gained 2 stone! My bump is huge! People often think I'm around 7 months pregnant. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Will i keep gaining weight? I'm not sure my skinny lil legs can take much more lol.
