Is it really worth buying maternity jeans..

Will i be able to wear them in the last couple of months of the pregnancy and will i be able to face ever wearing them again post pregnancy..am s.a.h.m now and although managed with normal jeans to 8 and a half months in last pregnancy wore loose dresses to work most of the time and wondering if more comfy to wear mat. ones.18 weeks now and still in normal jeans but bought some topshop ones in a flurry of excitement as quite trendy(for mat. ones)and come in a short leg but 40 quid so am i better off returning them and buying a 5 month supply of revels instead!thanks for any tips

i hated maternity jeans.

i bought one of those bits of elastic (belly belt?) which meant i could wear my normal trousers and skirts. much comfier and i didn't have loads of maternity clothes clogging up my tiny wardrobe after ds was born.

i wore my "next" mat jeans until they actually had holes in them! i wore them from quite early on and until about 8 weeks after too. they were under the bump ones with just two small stretchy panels in the front in the same style as not maternity ones.

i did have HUGE bumps though, really needed that comfy waist!

I got my Old Navy full panel maternity jeans on ebay from the U.S. and wore them constantly--couldn't have done without them, especially the last two months. I also had a bump band which kept me in some of my other trousers for a while, but mostly used it to cover up the fact that my normal t-shirts were riding up over the bump.

personally I think they're a waste of dosh and would get alot more out of a huge bag of revels!! I bought New Look mat jeans very early on thinking I would get loads of wear out of them, £30, so not bad really but have worn them twice and am due now! they were too stretchy for the first part of pregnancy when I didn't really gain much then they are under/on the bump stretchy which isn't really enough when you get to the middle/end stages; the legs look really nice (trendy straight leg dark denim) but the waist is crap to walk in as it slides too low/down (!) but then its conversely too tight to properly sit in. I tried on lots of other jeans in shops around the 7 months pregnant mark as well, and they all had similar problems. I've lived in long tops/dresses and leggings! much more comfy...

I bought mat jeans from Zara last time and wore them throughout. I wore mat camisole tops with normal cardis, so it wasn't a huge outlay. I suppose it depends on if you are normally a jeans person. I am, so they were indispensible.

I loved my maternity jeans, they were so comfy. I had the Next over the bump ones. I got a big bundle of maternity stuff off ebay, there's always loads of it on there and you can get some real bargains.

I wear jeans all the time and bought some skinny Moto ones off ebay this week. They are great. My normal ones are still wearable but do dig in a bit then I sit down for long periods of time.

Loving these new ones.

I did buy some Under the Bump Maternity jeans, and wore them a lot in my first pregnancy, but for my current pregnancy they have never been comfortable, and I have only worn them once.

I am bigger and a different shape this time round I think.
so have only wanted very comfy stretchy over the bump type trousers/skirts.

however I will probably wear the under bump jeans for the first month or so after the baby comes, seeing as this is what i did last time.

Thanks for all your advice ladies...i'm still not convinced about mat. jeans as feels like a lot of outlay for only a couple of months so have decided to return them and maybe get some from ebay so if dont wear them v much wont feel too guilty(though spending the change on revels will definitely up the guilt quotient!)I'm v much liking the leggings option too.

If you have a comfortable vaguely stylish pair you will wear them to death before and for a while after you give birth too!

Leggings aren't going to cut it in the winter.

Try JoJo Maman Bebe. Their jeans are about £30 but they have a pair of lovely bootcut ones in the sale at the moment for only £15. A really nice blue, flattering cut and quality soft denim. In fact, I think my bum looks smaller in these than in my usual jeans! They have a jersey bump band which you can pull up or fold down. Personally, I thought the ones in Next and Topshop just felt a bit cheap and uncomfortable - especially the Next ones which all seemed to have a weirdly low waistband that didn't come up high enough on my hips so it just didn't feel right. Depends what kind of jeans you usually like I suppose.

I agree with previous poster, much as I love my leggings right now, I know I'll need something more substantial through the winter...

I hate jeans at the best of times, just don't think the material is comfy at all, too 'hard'...I'm 22 weeks and living in leggings with flat calf-length boots, so warm and comfy, and normal leggings are still doing the job. Dresses and tights with ballet pumps for work, lots of long cardies, should see me through winter.

My previously great ones from Seraphine are now pretty uncomfortable (29 weeks) that they only get worn if I'm going out. Otherwise I'm in my preggy combat trousers from Next or work trousers from Seraphine, both of which seem to be far more stretchy.

I have 2 pairs one under bump which are fine when its warmer but not now as a gap around my middle and one over bump pair from asda which are so uncomfortable i cant wear them

i also have a pair of maternity dungarees which are so comfy and also a couple of pairs of mens jogging bottoms from primark which are comfy as well

I dont wear mat jeans when Im pregnant as I usually end up with a mahoosive bump and mat jeans just dont feel comfy..I usually go for cargo trousers with an over bump band or trousers..not baggy ones though

Not worth it imo. They all fall down. Both pregnancies I have worn my normal Topshop low-rise jeans up to about 8 months, with the button undone towards the end or held together, and they stayed up much better than the maternity jeans I bought.

i dont know what it is but i really just cant find a nice fitting pair of maternity jeans. i tend to get a really bad case of builders bum, so really just can't get away with them at all.

think i'll live in my velour tracksuit bottoms for the remainder of my pregnancy, attractive i know, but i've only got 14 wks left, so i'll cope i suppose lol. i'd save your 40 pound & buy a really nice pair when baby arrives.

I am 27 weeks and have been living in my over the bump jeans from Next for the past month. They are so comfy and weren't too expensive.

I had to buy maternity jeans, mine were from h+m. Apart from the fact I had a big bump, my thighs and bum podged up so I needed a bigger size anyway.

They were still in good condition after 2 pregnancies and I e-bayed them for a few quid.

Next over-the-bump jeans were fab. Not frumpy, very flattering, comfy, inexpensive and stayed up !

Can I second the Zara maternity jeans? Flattering AND comfy. They look normal but have a full basque sewn inside rather an on the waitband. Worth every penny.

I have Next under-bump ones as well but I can't bear them. Everytime I bend over my pants fall down.

I think it depends on your shape and the shape of your bump. I find normal jeans with the button undone / belly belt incredibly uncomfortable but obviously they work for other people.

I've got about 3 pairs of Topshop under bump jeans which i wore all the way through (once I needed them) last pregnancy and for a good couple of months after the baby was born and I'm now wearing them again second time round. Personally I think they're great and I have had loads of wear out of them but you need some that fit you well.

EBAY EBAY EBAY!! you can get some fantastic bargains,i got all mine off of ebay,the most i paid was 4 pounds 30 or something and they were like new! i got 2 pairs for 99p both from new look! like you i dont think i could bring myself to fork out a small fortune on something that is only going to be worn for a short time.you can put them back on ebay when youre done with them and probably make your money back!

i would maybe consider paying a bit more if i knew i was going to be pregnant again but this is my second and definately my last!

Also if maternity jeans dont really appeal,even if you are going for a bigger size try a charity shop?
