I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

ktw maybe you need to take your own pillows as some wards don't seem to have enough. They can always go back in the car too. The pelvic partnership website suggests you should ask for an ensuite room but IMO if you need a lot of help you can land up a bit isolated in a single room. maybe just make sure that you're not too far from the toilets.

What I'd like to know for mine is what is the best way to lie in bed to give everything a chance to go back to normal. When i had dc2 I lay on my back and my pelvis felt like a jigsaw.

ktwiltshire · 21/05/2010 13:49

i will be taking pillows in, i can only sleep well on feather pillows (i know how middle class lol), we can leave them in the car if needs be. going to have to be careful the cleaners dont nick them when washing the bedding, might put really specific pillow cases on them so they def dont look like hospital ones.

i will be taking my painkillers in, i dont want to run the risk of not having them

fantastic mrsM - glad things have calmed down, hope it stays that way

not sure if i get a choice over room, but i will ask when ive had the baby, im going to need enough space to keep my wheelchair by my bed anyway, enough room to maneover.
the isolation wont be a problem for me, i dont much like wards, but im happy to take what i can get.

i know the hospital pretty well and i can always go up the canteen for proper food if needs be, its also where i work so im taking my staff badge in so i can get discount in the canteen teehee!!!!

LooL00 · 21/05/2010 13:52

Hi mrsM i just crossed with you, glad your not so bad today. I'm no worse but better in the sense that I don't feel something is about to ping which is how I felt yesterday. Wriggled all night and kept DH awake.I agree with you about the meds, when i had dc2 they did bring me gaviscon when i asked for it ( i was surprised I still had heartburn) but they brought me the correct dose which is never enough.

MrsMiamla · 21/05/2010 14:17

kt anyone would think you were looking forward to it with that little giggle at the end! If you're bringing drugs in, seriously consider hiding them! when i was 23 wks pg with DS i had to stay in overnight (he was threatening to make a very early arrival!) and I'd been told I must have aspirin first thing in the morning (DS had blood flow issues). By the time I finally got the aspirin it was late afternoon! Perhaps you should tell them what you take but refuse any doses from them? I don't want you overdosing!!

maybe you should wear your staff badge during labour...might get you better treatment

looL00 glad you're not feeling worse at least. oh yes! i'd forgotten the overdosing on gaviscon days! Oh and i smuggled fybogel sachets in with me as well. Nothing like hospital food to bung you up just when you don't want it to!

I'm seeing my mw today which will be fun given that her room is upstairs and I need to take DS in his pushchair really hoping she agrees to a room downstairs otherwise she's going to be carrying DS upstairs and then coming back down to carry me up

ktwiltshire · 21/05/2010 14:43

mrsM its tempting to wear my staff badge at all times, but not entirely practical sadly! im looking forward to the end of it all, i can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and DH is keeping me nice and busy, took me out for a drink in town earlier today, was nice to see the outside world.
now i just have to try and get upstairs some point in the next few days for a shower, which is difficult as i seem to have pulled a muscle in my right (good) leg, which sucks, as i have previously been using that to push me up the stairs in the few occaisons i go up there!
im going to hide the drugs, trust me, will be kept in my handbag, i have a hidden compartment in there where i keep them anyway (so the kids dont find them)

my mw popped round about an hour ago with the form for the HIP grant, thank goodness, id forgotten all about it, and i was almost out of time to claim!

MrsMiamla · 21/05/2010 15:46

perhaps you could rig your badge up onto a headband or something

ooh, so pleased you've been out and about for something other than hospital/doctor/mw appts!

get that claim in quick... i've read on here that its very likely they'll be cutting them next Monday (don't know how true this is though). I"m planning on trying to sort mine out today [not holding my breath emoticon!]

as for the stairs, can you go up backwards on your bum with DH behind you giving you a pull? or as an alternative, do you know anyone with a downstairs bathroom? a powerful hose down in the garden? Actually, sorry, serious suggestion... when I couldn't get upstairs with my back I used to pop to the gym and blag my way in to use their shower (this is assuming that a) you've got a local gym b) you're happy to blag and c) that their changing rooms are on the ground floor!)

hmm, liking the sound of your hidden drugs compartment!

MrsSenior · 21/05/2010 16:04

A bit 'off thread' I know,... but just wanted to say... I'VE JUST FELT MY BABY MOVE!!! How sad am I? It's put this SPD in perspective though if that makes sense?

kt I'm an NHSer too!!!

Wishing you all lots of pain relief and happy times! Nothing can put me out of this bad mood!!! WOO HOO!!!

LooL00 · 21/05/2010 16:05

If you don't make it up stairs for a shower KT,maybe you could turn up a bit early at the hosp for your induction and ask to use theirs. Or sit on a chair in the kids paddling pool and get your DH to pour water over you. Whatever you do don't hurt yourself more at this stage by trying to get up stairs.
What is it mrsm with these upstairs midwives. I had one when I had dc2 and dc1 was a little angel sitting in his pushchair but I'd have to get him out and he'd rampage about pulling stuff out of the cupboards.

LooL00 · 21/05/2010 16:11

Hi mrsS lovely to hear that and it's not off thread at all, how they're lying can really affect the spd pain.Just you wait until your little darling starts kicking you in the cervix/pelvic floor/bladder. I've never worked out what gets kicked but it's really painful.

MrsSenior · 21/05/2010 16:18

I'm not looking forward to that!! It's just great to finally have something wonderful to say about pregnancy, so fr it feels like all I have done is moan!!! Sickness, exhaustion, pain pain pain. But actually feeling baby makes it all feel worthwhile! Although I am well aware things may well get a lot worse yet!!! Still got 22 weeks to go

ktwiltshire · 21/05/2010 17:21

mrsS yeah it gets annoying at times, but it does help to remind you why your doing it

mrsM DH put the claim form in the post earlier this afternoon, filled it out real quick and got it to the postboz just incase

looloo we dont have a paddling pool, weird considering we have a bouncy castle... the local gym charge you for using their showers, and i dont know anyone with a downstairs shower, when i realised i couldnt do stairs anymore i put a shout out to anyone with a downstairs shower and couldnt find anyone.

i am going to ask if i can have a shower on the ward before we start with the induction.
i did actually manage to get upstairs, ive managed to get upstairs a grand total of 3 times now for a shower since i stopped being able to walk up them, i go up on my bum with my 'bad' leg hanging down (otherwise my brain automatically tries to use it) and i use my 'good' leg to push up and both arms to pull myself up one step at a time. its an absolote bitch and tires me out for ages, i generally need a 30min rest before i can get in the shower, as standing up for that long also tires me out!
my right leg finally sorted itself out so i was able to go upstairs, im pretty sure that i will suffer for doing so tomorrow or the day after as these things do, but i feel SO much better for being clean with washed hair and everything!

MrsMiamla · 21/05/2010 19:39

kt after giving you the great advice in getting your form off quickly, just realised i forgot to post mine today...bugger!
I know what you mean about being clean, nothing worse than feeling icky! whenever i'm in a bad mood DH sends me off for a shower

mrsS woah! congrats on feeling baby moving!! i think its one of the most wonderful things! ooh except when you get kicked where i just got kicked! i don't think Pea likes me having my laptop on my lap anymore! She kicked just as i typed it being a wonderful thing!

looloo i know! mw came down to get me, looked at DS happily sitting in pushchair, said there wasn't a room downstairs suitable because she needed me on her bed thing so said he'd have to get out! erm no! no way i said. once he's out he's not going to get back in again without a fight and he'll cause chaos in her room. so she relented and helped me carry him upstairs.

ok, not going to be able to type for much longer...i'm getting battered from the inside!

ktwiltshire · 21/05/2010 22:45

mrsM hope the baby goes to sleep soon so you can get some rest!

hope everyone has a good weekend and no ones in too much pain!

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 08:19

morning girls

sooo, do we manage some sleep between us?

why is it that if I'm sleeping well, DS doesn't and vice versa?! still, its DH's turn to get up with him tonight

ktwiltshire · 22/05/2010 09:04

my non sleep was interrupted by a hedgehog coming into our living room at 2am...yeah it was after my ginger biscuits, DH had to gently get it into a box and then outside again! took both of us ages to settle down after that, we werent sure what to do best for the little thing it was sooo scared!

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 10:01

seriously?? how on earth did it get in?

LooL00 · 22/05/2010 10:49

Staggering about the house this morning. Been trying to find something more supportive than flipflops to shove on my feet. would buy some birkenstocks I'm that desperate but they are too wide. All my comfy sandals have either got straps or heels.
Slept ok and had the window closed so didn't get woken by the birds (or a hedgehog climbing in!).

You sound so much more cheerful ktw! So what have we got our fingers crossed for on the 26th, do you want the induction to take or do you actually hope for the c section? Or are you beyond caring?

have a relaxing weekend everyone and try to do NOTHING. My plan was to go back to bed when DH took the kids out this morning but I can't face the stairs so I'll hit the sofa instead. Hope you don't get woken tonight mrsM.

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 11:04

Hi LooL00

i've been really daft this morning. every time i put DS in the car seat i think 'eurgh' from all the crumbs etc so this morning i popped out with my little hand held hoover thing. Whilst i was out there DH shouted out the window, ooh do you mind doing the boot while you're there. Well i did and now i can't bloody walk. he's buggered off for the day but at least DS is having a long nap now

i'm not cross with DH, i'm cross with myself for being so stupid. i still need to learn that even if i'm feeling ok that i need to not do too much

but, i made a batch of brownies yesterday so at least i can get an easy sugar fix!

LooL00 · 22/05/2010 11:11

The problem mrsM is that when your feeling ok you're even more able to land up not being able to walk as yo think you can do more. Lie down while oyur ds is napping and maybe you'll recover a bit. Hope you feel better.

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 11:23

thanks, just feeling a bit sorry for myself. you're right, off to have a lie down now

ktwiltshire · 22/05/2010 11:53

mrsM you get some rest, sounds like you seriously need it, i used to do that, think im OK and then a few hrs or so or sooner after it kills and i feel like i need a large shot of morphine!

we think the hedgehog got in under the gate in the backgarden, must be the only way as the rest of it is walled. i leave the patio doors open at night at the moment as im getting really hot at night, so it got in through there and found my stash of ginger biscuits in the corner, it was trying to get at them! we put it outside and gave it a couple of biscuits and a saucer of water!

it did cheer me up, its one of the most interested not pregnancy/pain related thing thats happened in weeks!!

looloo hope your weekend is going well. Have you thought about croc type shoes? have a nice rest on the sofa, watch a film, eat biscuits, all those good things!!
im hoping that the induction doesnt take in all honesty, and my mw is kinda with me on that, as she knows how fed up and trapped i am, not to mention not having enough pain relief. if it does take then im just hoping, really hoping that my hips hold out and nothing goes wrong, but honestly im hoping the induction doesnt take and we end up with a CS.

My kids are accross the road with DH at the nurseries open day, facepaints, bouncy castle etc, it sounds like they are having a fab time, my eldest DDs boyfriend is there but theyve had a falling out!
relaxing on the sofa bed after having spent most of the morning giving DH and the kids jobs to do and as a result the house is all tidy, beds been changed and the dishwasher and washing machine are on. i cant do the nesting i have strong urges to do, but at least i can feel like something is being done

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 20:37

hi kt, well done for getting your troop organised! sounds like they've done a great job with the house!

who'd of thought it, hedgehogs like ginger biscuits Bet you won't be leaving any out tonight!

Well, i've had a lovely day today. Spent all day in my bikini, DS has been naked and we've had lots of fun and relaxation in the garden. He was playing so happily on his own for ages that i've actually got loads of reading done And before the child neglect police start getting called (!), our garden is completely child-proofed

hope everyone else had equally lovely days, off to scoff DS's leftovers for my dinner and then bath and bed

ktwiltshire · 22/05/2010 20:54

mrsM sounds like a lovely day, weve been in the garden too this afternoon, football with the kids running around in pants!!

chinese for dinner, the family have been doing a fantastic job at keeping me busy and distracted today, planned BBQ tomorrow, just wanting the days to go by, pains been pretty bad today, but the distractions have helped

MrsMiamla · 22/05/2010 21:01

its so nice that you've got all your family round, especially if they're helping to distract/entertain you!

DS being naked was great because it meant i didn't have to haul him upstairs to change his nappy. although (tmi alert so don't read if you're eating!) the huge poo he produced, surprised him somewhat (and me to be honest!) !!

dinner's scoffed so i'm off for a bath and bed now

night kt (and anyone else lurking!)

MrsSenior · 22/05/2010 21:13

kt glad you sound so much better today, not better, just less down?? I know what I mean!

MrsM Bikini??? That is a bit keen!!! I hve had my legs out today but thats all, been revising in the garden. I am so with you on the doing too much cos you feel alright/feeling awful later thing... I do that all the time so end up having alternate good and bad days sort of. Havent done much today so will feel great when I get up in the morning (best time of day for me and my pelvis) but then at work til 1 and then really really need to weed the front garden so I know by about 4 I wont be able to walk. I know this, but will still do it. I am rubbish at this arent I?!!!

LooLOO Crocs sound like a good idea, hope you managed to get some sofa rest?!

Lets see if anyone has any wildlife visitors tonight... oh, and if anyone has a spare gun I have a pigeon/dove thing that insists on cooing outside my window from about 5.15am til 9ish??? I am gonna bake a pigeon pie soon!!!!!!!
