Galloping Horses/trains = Boy/Girl , what way round

Hi,

A lot of nonsense I hear you cry!
Had 28 week midwife appointment today. When she listened to the heartbeat (which I have never before thought about) It sounded exactly like a galloping horse, infact it sounded like someone was clicking coconuts together!
It made me think, ooh what does that mean again.
I have one DS and this is my 2nd PG and it sounded so loud and funny I couldn't help wondering about it.

THink it's meant to be trains for boys and horses for girls BUT when I was expecting dd her heartbeat sounded exactly like a train right up to the delivery room when it changed to a galloping horse!

I just can't remember ever hearing a heartbeat like that before.

I was expecting horses or trains or similar... but honestly, to me it simply sounds like a fast heartbeat! (I'm having a girl, if that helps...)

I'm having a girl and I commented at the time that hers sounded like a suitcase being wheeled along the pavement, so I guess that would be train-like.

MW told me train is a boy (possibly).

So I guess horse is a girl?

How funny I wa thinking the exact same thing today with MW (also 28 weeks) as with dd it was exacty likea train. It did not sound like either today though (must be a boy to be akward I would say!!)

When I first heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks it was a DEFINATE horse galloping sound and over 140 BPM, now when I listen on doppler at home its a definate train sound and heartbeat under 140 BPM . .but am 31 weeks now. Does the heartbeat slow down as baby gets bigger I wonder? . . and is there any truth in over 140 = girl under 140 = boy??

I saw a top fertility consultant due to having chicken pox at 8-9 weeks, and asked her about the 'myth' of whether heart beat indicated gender.....she said she has conducted studies looking at heart beat rate, morning sickness presence, severity of morning sickness, shape of bump etc etc.....and basically said there is no statistical significance to the myths whatsoever.....
You can't tell what you have unless you find out at a scan.
The only info she could offer on the heartbeat was that if it is slow, chances are baby is asleep...and when faster baby is awake.
Am sure i have shattered some illusions,

I had my appointment with the midwife today (30 weeks) and she said about the train/horse thing..when we listened it definately sounded like a galloping horse, same as last time with DD. This baby is a girl too..
