i have a bit of extra money this month to finish buying clothes or what ever for my baby due in jan. its because our income lowers from next month. id like to know your advise i mean practically newborn will be used for less, but 0-3 months seems more practical. i don't know how big baby is yet as im 25 weeks only. i have lots of vests for newborn been given to me etc but im worried as i don't want to buy to much as she won't be in them for long.
Any ideas?

Depends what you're taking your DC out in. Personally I would go with a cardigan plus blankets if you're using a pram as it's easier to undo the layers if you get back and they're sleeping than taking off a snow suit. You'll need a snowsuit for a baby carrier tho. I had a November Baby and found she was always too hot in her snowsuit even in very cold weather with no other blankets.

Suggest a pack of Newborn vests/sleepsuits as other posters have said from Tesco or similar and then a few 0-3 months. Don't go overboard though as you may find you get lots of gifts in that size. Could also buy closer to the time and keep your receipt then return Newborn sizes if you have a bigger baby! I also swapped some of my gifts

everyone has been so great again. its been amazing. i think we have enough stuff now all i need to get is couple of snowcoats for walking the dog with prob size 0-3 months as they will fit her bit longer as they look expensive. i don't think it woulds matter if they are little bit big for first few months???? and we need to get couple of newborn sleepsuits. scared of her get suffercated or something. great

Check out ebay for snowsuits. I've just bought a few ready for the winter and they are fab; great quality at a bargain price!

Just chuckling at your post, LifeofKate, as I can hear myself two years ago! DH is 6'3, and def rugby build. He was born a month earlier by caesarian because he was choking his mother...so I thought I'd have a whopper and only bought 0-3 clothes. When DS arrived at 5lb13, the whole of him fitted into the body bit of the 0-3 babygros, and DH had to whip out to the shops for tiny baby size. All the 0-3 stuff I'd bought was neutral - mostly white, and DS didn't actually fit into it until he was over 3 months old.
If I was doing it again, I'd probably just get a very few basics and send DH out when I was in the hospital. I bought some great clothes bundles on eBay from Mums who'd gone overboard and then never even used things.

DD was swimming in 0-3 stuff and she was 9 pounds 11 at birth so I would get some cheap newborn stuff but not much of it.

This might be a really dumb question, but I don't see why you need 'vests'. Surely you can just put them in a babygrow/sleepsuit...especially at this time of the year. I haven't bought any vests and am due on 13th November. Do I need to get some?

vest thread

Vests essential in my experience! My DS was never without one for the first year or so.

stareyes76 · 11/10/2009 18:40

iv heard from all mums to get vests so i would get some.... we only have about 7 and hoping thats enough. im so glad i posted this as it seems to have helped a lot of people. lol.

I found the up to onemonth clothed were the best m and s and next do this size

0-3 swamped my 6 lb 13 and 7 lb 5 babies but they were quite short

the babies in my family come out big ( my brother was 10 lb my cousin has nearly 11lb ) but mine came out normal size. so big babies in the family does not necessarily mean big babies in you!

IdrisTheDragon · 11/10/2009 20:35

I got newborn for DS but he was a skinny 6lb 1oz baby and looked very swamped by them. 0-3 would have been even sillier

People will get you small clothes when your baby is born so I wouldn't get too much now.
