Baby shower

I need some help. An Indian friend is having a baby shower on Saturday. She is having it in a church hall and there are some sort of traditions being held, bangles and bindi have been mentioned. My dilema is, do I take a present for the baby or do I wait till it is born (November), or do I just give money or what? If I dont buy something for the baby do I take something for my friend? I am also meeting her mum for the first time, do I take something for her? I'm sure someone here will know.

for a shower you should take something for the baby. Doesnt have to be big or expensive. The idea of gifts at baby showers was to equip the first time mum to be with all the things she would need to deal with the baby. That is not really such an issue these days but something small for the baby like grow suits or a toy etc would be appropriate.

I had one, got nappies and nipple cream and loads of other stuff, baby shampoo etc plus the bigger things & baby clothes

I think it's a something for the baby
I don't know if you would still get something when the baby is born as well as that. I wouldn't think so.

I think at baby showers in this country, the done thing is to take along a small gift, exactly the type of thing you would buy for someone's baby who had just been born, or something practical (maybe more appropriate if they don't know the sex of the baby)

Yes paisleyleaf I think if there has been a baby shower the parents would not be expecting the baby shower guests to buy a present when the baby is born as well.

I dont mind buying another gift when the baby is born but it is easier if you know what sex the baby is. Thanks for all your help.
