Has any1 else noticed child benefit starts at 29weeks pregnant?????

Hi all,

Was reading through my little folder given to me by the M/W about benefits, and have found a little section that says after April 2009 child benefit will be paid from 29weeks pregnant!?
so does that mean that if i start my M/L at 29weeks i can claim C/B straight away or do you back date it from when baby born??

I think it's backdated from birth and after registering the birth. Could be wrong.

I'm under the impression that's what the Health in Pregnancy grant is - a lump sum representing child benefit, claimable at 29 weeks? It came in April 2009. It's £190 and not means-tested.

Would be glad to be proved wrong though!

I thought I'd check into this as I didn't want to miss out! Unfortunately it seems like you can only claim it as from the date the child is born, and in order to start claiming you have to send them the birth certificate. The official Revenue & Customs advice is here But you could get ahead and print and fill out the form available via the above link now (ready with an envelope etc., ready to send off once you have the birth certificate)!

Scroll down and read note 1 to editors. Unfortunately it looks like the HIP £190 grant did indeed replace the idea of child benefit starting at 29 weeks. Boo

Can confirm that the HIP grant was introduced instead of the pledge of CHB from 29 weeks..
