Can you get cervical erosion bleeding in pregnancy WITHOUT having sex?

I'm reading about cervical erosion as I've had some bleeding, but generally it's mentioned as an after effect of sex... we haven't done it for weeks due to being poorly. Can you get cervical erosion without sex? (Just wondering, scan tomorrow etc) tia

I had a cervical erosion bleed at 16weeks when pg, I'd had sex but it was a fully week before, don't know if that counts. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along in a minute.

Good luck with your scan tomorrow

Thanks bibi - was everything ok in your pregnancy? did it just clear up and go away of its own accord?

I had a cervical erosion which never bled after sex although it seemed to clear up whilst I was pregnant so I didn't have bleeding whilst pregnant at all.

I don't think the two are necessarily linked.

Good luck with your scan.

I'm 32wks pg. Had cervical erosion bleeding in early pg (first 10wks or so) which was not brought on by sex. TMI but it might be helpful for you - it often started with a very pink mucus discharge then streaks of blood (bright red) it did calm down and I now have a very heavy yellow discharge caused by the ectropian.

If all seems well with the scan ask the mw/dr to have a look at your cervix (just like having a smear) as an ectropian should be visible (don't be embarrassed they won't mind at all and it might put your mind at ease)

Best of luck

I had a cervical erosion in my last pregnancy, it wasn't brought on by sex i was told hormones can cause it too..Mine bled on and off but stopped as soon as i had my baby. Nothing since (3.6 years) Im now 6 nearly 7 months preg with no2 and no sign of it.

Hope that helps

I had cervical erosion during my last pregnancy. The way the doctor described it was that its caused by changes to the cervix during pregnancy.

There was no pattern or "cause" (ie.sex) to the episodes of bleeding I had.

Thanks for your input, folks!

ninjacat yours was especially interesting as it sounds a little like what I've been having... pink spotting to start, with a little fresh red blood streaked discharge, then that again the next day, still small amount but with some clots* (this was after a coughing fit - I've had a bad cold and I really don't think it's helped the pregnancy at all) and I've also been having a thick discharge- so there's a chance it could be cervical erosion.

  • The clots worried me terribly but when I spoke to an emergency doctor he said that clots are simply the result of blood sitting about, it wasn't necessarily womb lining I was expelling, as with a normal period.

Hi just an update on this thread in case anyone ever googles cervical erosion!

I had a scan today and the baby is fine, so it's likely it was a cervical erosion as she couldn't see any reason for the bleeding on the scan.

Thanks for your input, everyone!

I had bleeding but hadn't had sex. They said a big poo could also be a cause!! Due to straining - so presumably coughing could be a cause for the same reason.

Everything turned out fine.

Bibithree · 28/09/2009 22:34

Sorry I posted and didn't get to come back! Everything went fine with the pg, no more bleeding after that occasion.
Glad your scan went okay.

Ninjacat · 29/09/2009 07:23

Glad the scan went well. Best of luck for the rest of the pg.

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with twins. I had an episode of bleeding two nights ago that sent me to the ER. I was admitted and given IV fluids. After 9 hours and multiple tests they couldn't the cause of my bleeding. I'm cure rely on bed rest and still having a small amount of bleeding. With this condition how long did you bleed for? Did it happen again?

DoodleAlley · 17/06/2013 05:17

I bled on and off with a cervical erosion for all of my pregnancy. Very light bleeding and usually browner rather than fresh.

Im now nine weeks after the birth and still get occasional
Mild symptoms which the GP assures me are very common but if it carries on for anothe rmonth or Si I'm going to ask to get checked out that it is still definitely the cervical
Erosion.

HullMum · 17/06/2013 05:47

I did

Momof42013 · 17/06/2013 16:12

How long did the bleeding episodes last?
