When does the uterus move up????

Just wondering when the uterus moves up from the pubic area into the tummy.

I'm 14+2 weeks today and starting to worry as my uterus does not feel as big as it did a couple of weeks ago.

I had a missed mc at 13 weeks a few months ago and I'm really starting to panic that something is wrong again.

Can anyone give any advice??? TIA xxx

It's not meant to be near your naval until 20 weeks. It should rise at about 1cm a week after that. As for before i'm not entirely sure, but i think it's probably around the same time, just won't be as noticeable to an untrained eye.

Don't worry about it not feeling as big as it did, i had the same thing but my midwife said it's because the uterus movs around and as such feels different at different times.

thanks STM. I don't want to go ringing my midwife again coz I've already called her twice and I think she thinks I'm a bit of a pain.

I've got a scan on Thursday - just don't want more bad news.

Don;t be silly, all us pregnant women are meant to be pains! It's the one time we're allowed to be. She won't think that at all, she's there for help.

If you got a scan on thurs then just ask the sonographer the same types of questions as the midwife, they know most things and are alot friendlier, all my sonographers have been really good advice givers!

I'm seeing the consultant at the hospital on Thursday too so I'd badger her with my questions. She is really really nice and totally understanding of our situation.

I've already had my 12 week scan - at which I said I was going to visit the midwife at 14 weeks to hear the heartbeat rather than waiting till 16 weeks.

My consultant said that it might be difficult to pick the heartbeat up at 14 weeks and then I'd worry so to come in for an extra scan (see I told you she was lovely )

Our last baby died at 13 weeks but I didn't find out until the heartbeat check at 16 weeks - this is just to put my mind at rest a little. I'm a lucky girl!!!!

You are, but deserving of it aswell. At least she's nice and totally understands your worries and is trying to help you get over them quicker than usual.

Even if they can't pick one up to hear they can always see it. Friends of mine had IVF and you get loads of scans when they find you're pregnant by that and they could see the heartbeat at 6weeks, so all's not lost if it's not loud enough they should be able to see it.

I don't know why but i've got a 28 week scan. Do you have any idea why? it was planned at my 12week one, before my 23week one. Is it normal to have another? nothing is wrong with Noah.

The only thing I can think of is if you had a low lying placenta?!?! I had this with my 1st and they just did an extra scan to see if it had moved.

Was Noah in the correct position?? Are they checking for a breach birth or anything.

When I was saying about the heartbeat check I mean with one of those doppler things - they are bringing me in for a visability scan to put my mind at rest.

sweetheart, try not to worry, the uterus doesnt move above the brim of the pelvis until after the12th week and doesnt get to the naval area until the 20th week, also if your bladder is full you will be more aware of your womb, but at this stage it could still be quite hard to feel your uterus, try not to panic

No they said my placenta is fine and everything is normal, it;s really wierd the wway they booked it at my 12 week scan, i don;t mind though i get to see him again so it;s fine. I;ve got my 28week bloods at the same time so, maybe they thought they might aswell check how he's growing at the same time.

I know regardless of how far along you are (before 30weeks) it can be hard to find a heartbeat using a doppler, Noah kept moving away from it!!

i'm sure you'll be fine hun. How long ago was your mc if you don;t mind me asking?

Have you got a resus negative blood group??? Thats what they take extra bloods for isn't it - If you are, your special like me !!!!

I'm sure I'm just being over sensative about the whole thing re:- my uterus - it probably wasn't eeven my uterus that i could feel

I lost my last baby in January. He would have been due on 30th June so with one thing and another I will be very glad to see the back of June!!!

My understanding is that uterus moves up after the first trimester - therefore eases pressure on the bladder - less loo stops for a time

Don't rely on dopplers too much! I heard dd's heartbeat fine all through my pregnancy and then at my overdue appt the 'male' doctor couldn't find a heartbeat - at which point I was cacking it - good job I was lying down - went for a scan and everthing was fine - think the male obs got a bit of a b from the nurse as he was very sheepish after - and dd was fine!

maybe they think i am coz my mum was with my sis. still don;t know my bloody group though, not written anywhere on my hosp notes!!

Just remember that mw's are there to help so dont feel bad abot ringnig them if you're worried. if it does annoy them then that's their problem not yours, your entitled to have your mind put at rest.

To be honest I'd rather wait until Thursday and speak to my consultant than ring my midwife.

She's much more friendly and helpful
