Stinging pain / Skin sore to touch under bump. Should I worry/go to Doc?

Hi

I could just be super paranoid but the last 10 days or so the area between my bellybutton and top of bikini line has got progressively more sensitive. The best way to describe area is under the sort of "ledge" that forms and top of bikini line(am I the only person with a ledge though ?)

I am 38wks with 1st.

The skin has become a bit veiny looking according to DH (I can't see!) he says that you can see vein-type lines beneath the skin. Skin is sore to touch and there are shooting stinging pains in the area.

I have no idea what this might be or whether I should go to Doctor or even if it is something to worry about/is common... DH wonders can there be varicose veins on stomach ?

TIA

Could your husband be mistaking stretch marks for veins? They are red or purple on first appearance. Just as this is your first pregnancy. (I hadn't got any stretch marks at 40 weeks with my first, then she was overdue by a week and loads showed up in the last 7 days!)

No colour to marks he says.. it's like seeing veins that are raised under the skin ???

Would stretch marks be painful ? Have no marks anywhere else..

stretch marks are often painful as its your skin sort of tearing at first! so they can be itchy or sore or raised or stinging in my experience! I also have a nice red raised rash over whole bump which is stinging like crazy, am covered in calomine lotion which is great for soothing sore skin, nothing like it. Rashes are really common in pregnancy as well apparently as our skin gets very sensitive on bump, great...

Thanks for the replies. BrightonBleach you are the most right it seems.. it's a rash. Doc says something like a heat rash.

Am to be coated in calamine lotion too. Lovely.

ah stannie i feel your pain mines like a heat rash & is a 'classic pregnancy rash' according to my consultant (who also called it 'minor' in my notes - cheeky,I'd like to see major then, theres no skin there any more just angry red lumps aargh) ho hum.

I had exactly what you/your DH describe in the OP with DS2, but all around my belly button instead.

I couldn't wear tight maternity t-shirts near the end - even that was unbearable against it.

I went to Doc as was pertrified the skin was going to tear or something as it looked so thin and he said it was just bad stretching and nothing to worry about. The skin is totally normal looking again now and have had DS3 since - it didn't happen with DS3, only 2.
