34wk scan for placenta previa?

Hi,

Am due a scan on Mon to check position of Placenta as it looked low lying at 12wk scan.

Have been told by girl who gave me the appointment to make sure I drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before coming in - she kept warning me if I didn't they would have to send me back home! At the time I didnt question it but its freaking me out now and I cant get anyone in the Hospital to talk to about it. Theres no way I would be able to drink that much at this stage of pg and hold it in for an hr before arriving - plus there's always queues once you're there so who knows how long Id end up with an overful bladder!
Question is - have any of you had this 34wk scan and did you have to drink the litre or was the girl confused thinking it was for a 12 week scan? (Hoping she was)

I had a scan at 33 weeks and didn't have to drink any water, it wasn't planned to have the scan so had no opportunity to drink anything. She may have been getting mixed up with 12 week scan

That advice seems to be rubbish unnecessary to me. A full bladder is helpful for early pregnany scanning when this helps to bring the still rather small uterus forwards and upwards.
At 34 weeks you'll be lucky to hold a glass of water, never mind a whole litre .

I've had scans to rule out placenta praevia as well and nothing was said at all about how full my bladder was to be.

Hi - I had a 36 week scan yesterday for the same reason and my letter stated i needed to drink a litre of water before hand - pah! No way was I gonna even consider holding onto that amout of water.....I didnt and although the sonographer commented my bladder was empty, he had already scanned and located my placenta.

I wouldnt worry about drinking a litre, the scan equipment is so much more advanced lately I really dont think it will matter

Phew! Thanks ladies I've been more worried about the full bladder than the prospects of PP!
