BFP? Help needed interpreting faintest of lines

I know, I know, I should have stayed away from the First Response but I caved this month and have just done a test. There is the faintest of faint lines and I wondered if anyone had any advice. AF is due, I think, tomorrow so I would have expected a stronger line as the test is so sensitive. Also, I had a faint line with DC2 but this one really is super faint and I'm worried that I'm imagining it. Anyway, I know that the sensible thing to do is wait a couple of days and if AF doesn't come then test again but I am not feeling sensible!

Any advice much appreciated.

Run now to chemist - go! And good luck.

MiniMarmite · 18/09/2009 10:54

I think any line is a +ve as there have to be pregnancy hormones present for the chemical reaction to work. I was like this over the weekend. DH claimed there was no line and I was convinced I could see one. A few days later there was no denying it. I hope the same applied to you.

Hard to be sensible at a time like this

thedollshouse · 18/09/2009 11:08

You need to buy a digital test, then you will know for sure.

With ds my tests showed up negative at 4 weeks, at 8 weeks they were still very faint. This time round I thought the test was negative it was so faint, tried again a few days later and it was no clearer. Bought a digital test and it said "pregnant, conceived 2-3 weeks ago"! They are expensive but well worth the money!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/09/2009 11:22

Agreed, get a clearblue digital! I had some internet cheapies, got the faintest of faint lines, dp said I was imagining things. I couldn't wait til morning so I broke out a clearblue digital, did it with evening wee, pregnant 1-2 weeks!

A line is a line, as long as it appeared within a minute or two and is faintly pink and thickish rather than a grey/thin line which is just an evap line. Good luck!!!!

Prinpo · 18/09/2009 11:27

Thanks all, dashing off to Tesco to get digital one - worth the money just so I don't spend all afternoon squinting at a test stick. By 'eck, it's all changed since DC2, there were nay such thing as digital tests back then (she's only 4!). Keep everything crossed for me - it's DH's birthday today and it would be a great present as we've been trying for ages!

Prinpo I am in exactly the same position last night after testing with a cheap Asda test. The line is extremely faint but definately pink, so I'm very dubious about the result but sure its not -ve. I think the only thing to do is wait till the weekend and try again.

Af is due anytime between now and Sunday as well. Good luck

thedollshouse · 18/09/2009 11:33

Prinpo I found out I was pregnant on dh's birthday too! I think that is a good omen in itself.

Prinpo · 18/09/2009 11:35

Good luck to you too. Let me know how you get on. Why not go and get a digital test as other posters suggested?

I think I might do, stuck at work at the minute with all of this time to think about it and wonder

I used one when I found out with dd despite getting two definate +ves beforehand.

Hollyoaks · 18/09/2009 11:43

Thanks for starting the thread by the way, it saves me doing it. How spooky!

ClaraDeLaNoche · 18/09/2009 12:09

Prinpo - let us know what happens.

PS I got a neg on Clearblue digital but a pos on a Tescos cheapie with the same wee.

Prinpo · 18/09/2009 13:01

Buggerbuggerbollocks. Just done Clearblue digital test and got a negative. It was with midday wee and was one day before AF due (it states that should use first wee if testing before period due date) so I'll spend the rest of the day wondering... will keep you posted and thanks so much for earlier comments.

grr prinpo please ignore clearblue digital i am always warning woman not to use them to early, i have negatives after plenty of normal positives.

Test again in the morning and save the CB digi for a week or so good luck!

springerspaniel · 18/09/2009 16:02

I hate to be negative but the problem with doing tests so early is that many people miscarry that early but don't notice because it comes at period time. Sometimes the faint line can be misleading because a miscarriage has already happened.

Indeed after a miscarriage at 8 weeks, my pregnancy test line was big and strong a few days later due to the hormone levels.

Having said all of that, I've always done pregnancy tests ridiculously early and my very faint line turned out to be the real thing. Am now 6 weeks pg with baby number 3.

Prinpo any news?

I did another test over the weekend and got a stronger line second (and third ) time round. They were on Tesco cheapies this time. Good luck.

MrsMc82 · 20/09/2009 09:51

I got the weakest of lines (had to go outside to day light for dh to see it) the day before my period was due with a first response and am 22 wks now. Hope its good news for you xxx

Prinpo · 20/09/2009 10:38

Hollyoaks, sadly no news although AF now one day late. Tried a Sainsbury's cheapy and got a neg. They didn't have any First Response but I'm very keen to do another one of those and see if I can replicate faint line. Obsessive? Moi? Massive about your stronger lines - fantastic news. Will keep you posted. MrsM, very encouraging story. Think I just need to lay my hands on another First Response...

Prinpo · 20/09/2009 17:13

WE HAVE LIFT OFF! Definite line on First Response, no need for squinting at all. All being well, May baby on its way. Now, we begin a whole new phase of worrying...

Thanks everyone for useful comments. Hollyoaks, hope all's well with you. Look forward to comparing notes.
