Friend is being induced but the Midwife "can't find her cervix" ??????

she is currently 37 weeks but has gestational diabetes so they have taken her in to induce her as baby is getting too big.

She was given that gel stuff yesterday morning and they were due to give her a tablet last night but they haven't.

Today they were goping to burst her waters but when examining her they have said that they can't find her cervix as its too far back. ????

Now have i had this told to me wrong or is this something quite usual?

how can a midwife not find your cervix?

Mine couldn't when I went for a sweep and she bloody hurt me looking for it! My cervix during pregnancy went wondering off to the left so she was ferreting about in the centre and couldn't find it. I was too to tell her I knew exactly where it was!

I think if it is too far back then it is very unfavourable for induction and they should ideally leave her alone for a bit as labour is unlikely to happen even with induction if her cervix isn't favourable.

I think they are worried for her though as she is really quite tiny and baby is HUGE!

I was the same, midwife struggled to do a sweep. It was only afterwards when I had a smear that the nurse told me it was off to one side.

apparantly mine is back-to-front!

Often if it's 'not favourable' it can be tucked right up and underneath. Specially if the cervix is still tightly closed and the babes head is quite low it sort of gets pushed right back and out of reach.
Not weird but makes induction that bit longer because you have to start right from the beginning rather than if the cervix is already in a reachable place and all nice and squishy.
