Sorry - I know this isn't a pregnancy question - but I am pregnant so I look to you lot to answer every query these days!

I'm going to a first birthday party this week and need a good gift. I want to spend under £20 (ideally well under!) - any suggestions? I don't know any other 1 year olds so not sure what they're into at this stage - did any of you receive great gifts for your babies at this stage?

Cheers!

best present by far was a cheapo umbrella fold stroller for her dollies. still going strong 7 years later, with dd3.

Best bet IMO is always a good book - there are loads of lists of recommendations on here somewhere but you can't go wrong with one of the Julia Donaldson ones (Gruffalo, Snail & The Whale, Room on The Broom, Monkey Puzzle) or if you want something more substantial (and for the longer term), get some Paddington/Roald Dahl/the Zoo-ology book.

Failing that, one year olds I know love sorting stuff so stacking cups or Tomy eggs. Also, the animal figures (Schleich?) they now stock in ELC are lovely and should be played with for a long time, my 1yo and my 4 yo both enjoy them.
