Anyone being tested for strep B??

To be tested for this, I would have to go privately. What do people think about this? I realise it can be serious- but then why don't they test for it as standard? I realise you need to be hooked up to antibi IV in labour if you have it- but isn't it better to help baby? am confused...............so many conflicting viewpoints!

I had the test privately. The NHS try to justify their reasons for not testing for this, namely, that they don't believe enough women are affected and that the risk to baby is small in a ratio sense, but for me it was a risk I didn't want to take for the sake of £35.

I also came out positive and did have the anti b's during labour. It was fine, certainly didn't feel like a hassle for me though they did give me and ds diarreah (sp) for a few days after but I felt overall that it wasn't too bad considering what the outcome could have been.

Also tested privately, £35 is not that a lot of money. Awaiting the test results any day now.

My understanding is that IV abs are administered via bolouse dose via cannula, i.e. no need to be hooked up. At least in my hospital. (Still, the thought of a cannula sends shudders down my spine.)

Was tested positive earlier on in this pregnancy, which marred my hopes for a home birth. So, awaiting the results impatiently after the 'garlic cure'.
