Has anybody used it, i have a 3rd degree tear after birth which is so painful.

I use it for my needle phobia. After about an hour I can't feel a thing, but it does wear off. I haven't heard of putting it on wounds though, I thought it was intended as a local anaesthetic for before skin grafts.

You should NOT apply the cream to cuts, grazes or wounds, or areas where there is a skin rash or eczema. Do NOT apply the cream in or near the eyes, inside the nose, ears, mouth or anus (back passage), or to the genitals of children.

oops I put it on 3 chicken pox my poor ds had on his back passage one night when he was screaming with pain, helped him get back to sleep

My dd1 needs it for regular blood tests but as lazylion says takes about an hour to work and wears off again

Ooh no, not to be used on cracked or open skin wounds.
Bloody fab stuff for needles though, takes min of 30 mins to work.

Try paracetamol and nurofen alternated then you can take painkillers more than every 4 hours. also regular salt baths really helped me (although i was only 2nd degree).

Where do you but it ladies? Having to have IV atb when I go to labour and am totally freeking out about needles. Sounds this may help.

It is applied to where the needle is going to be inserted, but be aware that they may need to try several sites depending on your veins. And get your midwife to write it in your notes or ask them well in advance in my experience!

Sorry for my typo I meant 'where do you buy it'? I thought I would be able to buy it and apply it myself before I go in.

If you're in pain with a tear, try instillagel. May be instilagel. I got prescribed this after my episiotomy with DS2. Was fab stuff. It is normally used for inserting catheters into men. I got 5 syringes full, but only needed a tiny bit each time. You can also buy it OTC I think.

Fourarms can you apply it to the swollen bits, as im in so much pain, just want something to numb the area really.

And also how do you apply it?

My episiotomy tear ended up going right up my bum, so it really hurt to do a poo, and was agony for hours afterwards. I just used the gel before going for a poo, and there was no pain at all for a few hours. It is just a gel that you rub in whereever you need it.
