Anything I can do to boost my immune system?

I'm taking the usual pregnancy vits an eating healthier than I've ever done in my life. This is my second.

So far, and I'm only 12 weeks or so, I've had 3 colds, bronchitis, tonsillitis and a stomach bug. I feel like absolute crap (and yes, I know some of that is first trimester tiredness but all these bugs are not helping).

I have a very lively little girl of 21 months, who takes quite a lot of running around after, a fairly full-on (allbeit part-time) job (the three days I am in work are fairly mental), general housework to do and we're in the process of a house move.

All these illnesses are becoming quite debilitating, are getting me down, and frankly I just don't have the time for them!

Is there anything I can do which will work wonders?

I'm sick and tired or being sick and tired, as the saying goes....

Ta in advance

hey db - have they been giving you antibiotics to combat all of these things?

i take a live probiotic every morning- used to take them and then stopped. but started again when i got a uti and was given antib's.

not sure it boosts your immune system so much, but does replace the good bacteria in your gut - i have seen a huge improvement in my digestion and am feeling heaps better since taking them.

there is also some anecdotal evidence that points towards it being good for the bub.

feel better - hth. sorry i have no miracle worker.

I had antibiotics for the bronchitis - but they didn't make much difference, TBH. I can't help but think they probably make the long-term situation worse, so am reluctant to take too many.

Probiotic a good idea though... I'll try anything/everything. The latest ad says something about 'natural defenses' so I guess it can't hurt. They're ok for the baby, you say?

Thanks... [sniff]

No real answers here either, but you are not alone!

I'm not pg (have a 2.6 year old and 3 month old) but spent the first 4.5 months of my last pg ill with something (flu / chest infection / stomach upset...), and I am now going through another bout of being ill with something (cold type viruses).

I am sure it comes about because your body is working hard building a baby and focuses on that rather than your immune system which does take a dive when you are pregnant, and now in my case because I am permanently sleep deprived. I don't ever seem to get a chance to rest which would probably help me get better more quickly. Is there anyone who could take your DD for an afternoon so you can have a nap?

It is so frustrating as I used to be really fit and well before kids, and never got ill. I used to take a fair bit of exercise, but that has slipped a bit post kids. I think it did help me remain well, but I am now stuck in a catch 22, of needing to take exercise to stay well, but then catching a bug and feeling too ill / tired to get out of the house.

Hope this helps a bit.
