SPD - Where do get them belt thingies and do they work?

Had this first time around but not until 36+ weeks, but now feeling it when in bed at 31 weeks so thinking might need to get a belt to help me through next few months...

Ask for a referral to physio.

They gave me an assessment and a lot of important advice when I suffered from spd in my second pregnancy as well as giving me tubi-grip and my 'truss' as it was affectionately known!

Luckily, I only required this to get me through and still remain relativey mobile.

Ask your gp or midwife for a referral.

I also got a referral for physio to get my lovely belt when preg with DD.

Well, it certainly made my life a bit easier, still in lots of discomfort and fairly immobile but offered some support. I would look to get another one if it happens when preg again.

def get reffered to physio. I had belt but got given it by a MNetter and then i passed on once finished with.

That is all very interesting, I should actually go for referral in that case as still have 9 weeks of this and could get worse! Esp if they will get me the belt.

Strange though isn't it, belt supports bump but pain actually in hips, guess they are all joined up though!

Gosh no don't get the mothercare belt. Seriously waste of time and money. I took mine back because it was so rubbish. Collapsed after one day of wearing. (And I was only 20 weeks at the time)

Yes go for referral. Definately!

But if you want something right now I'd try this one here

I actually got mine on ebay a bit cheaper than that. It does actually give you some support - the mothercare one is a bit of flimsy elastic with some fabric sewn on.

The belt doesn't just support the bump it actually goes underneath the bump and is pulled tight across the hips holding all the joints together and stops the pubic bone grinding up and down when you walk. Best advice is to get the large tubigrip as others have said as you can double it up and where it as low as you want to suit yourself. A tip for after the birth is to where really tight jeans as it gives good support.

Even if you buy a belt yourself, still get a referral to a physio for some expert advice.

There are lots of things you should avoid doing which can exacerbate the condition e.g. anything that involves spreading the legs!

A good friend of mine had to stand up all through her labour and was only allowed to lay down if she had to for the actual delivery as her spd was so bad.

You may also need to be seen after the birth as well, to check all is well and they will advise on what size belt and how to wear it (i.e. what accessories it goes with....only joking about the accessories)

Definitely, don't just buy a belt.

Gosh it is an arse of a thing, known other women who've suffered terribly from it. I know it isn't too bad but I realise getting it earlier it may be worse than last time and may last after birth perhaps. Actually I saw an osteopath last time randomly right at end and she was totally amazing and did help.

So have bought the belt and made appoint. for referral if all too complicated or will take an age i'll just find another osteo where we live now.

And I would recommend a chiropractor appointment too. Did wonders for me. Good luck and hope it doesn't get too bad

And keep your legs together, lol.

e.g. when getting out of bed or car, swing legs at same time, keeping your knees together.
