keloid scar

Hi,

I posted a while ago about my scar still being quite raised and purple, and found out from helpful replies that its probably a keloid scar. Now as my bump is growing, im wondering if the scar is as strong as it should be?! It is a thin silvery line at one end but quite thick in the middle. Are keloid scars still strong despite how they look?? I don't want to google...thanks for reading.

I had a keloid scar from my first em cs, which was treated with steroid injections and special cream by a hospital dermatologist, but remained raised and quite purple, though not as sore as it had been. Fell pregnant 17 months after em cs and everything was fine, it was strong and didn't cause any probs, although ended up needing another em cs at 36 weeks with DC2, so I guess it didn't get the final big stretch of the last month. From what my consultant said there's no reason to worry that a keloid scar won't be as strong as a "normal" scar, but if you're worried to talk to your midwife or consultnat. Good luck x

I had one from my first CS and it got more lumpy and horrible in my second pregnancy. Consultant told me that it was just as strong as normal scar but mine looked terrible.
Are you having another CS maybebaby? My consultant cut the scar out in my second CS and I now have a very neat normal scar. She told me that keloid scars are often caused by the thread with beads on method of closing the wound, staples are much better.

Oh thanks for that, yes i am having a repeat CS so maybe they will do that, cut out the scar tissue and hopefully it will heal normally..ah i didn't know they can be caused by the method used to close the wound. Thanks for your reply!
