I have just found this forum - I need some support! I have a 13 month old son and have just found out I'm expecting again. Was getting v big v fast so had scan today to show Quintuplets due end of December. What the hell am I going to do?? How can I cope with this many children (I'm 21 and we have no family around). How will we afford it (DH is a self employed gardener and I'm a SAHM). Am scared DS is going to be overshadowed too. And how am I going to carry 5 babies for long enough for them to be healthy? Dr thinks bedrest from 24 weeks - but what about ds? This is madness it can't be real. DH is overjoyed but i don't think reality is sinking in yet. Please help me stay sane and think straight....

Thanks JanH. I guess if she can do it...!
Maybe you were thinking of the american sextuplets. They had an older child. I saw a film on them once. have to dig it out. I guess anything is possible.

No noddyholder our son was a shock too. they now think that the sort of pill I was on didn't work in either case (obviously) but haven't got to the bottom of how I could have ovulated so much in one cycle yet. Apparently the odds are ridiculous and Dr said we were more likelt to win lotto every week for a year. Think that might be an exaggeration!

Wow, congratulations Quinty! I'm not surprised you are feeling overwhelmed, I certainly would be too.

Regarding the press, they most likely wouldn't run the story without a picture, which you don't have to agree to. And it's usually the parents who contact the press, so I wouldn't worry too much about that to be honest.

Very scary if you have to consider terminating some of the foetuses... best wishes with it all.

you will need the lottery win too now!

Congratulations, Quinty! Wow! And welcome to Mumsnet. I saw a documentary when I was pg with ds1 (now 6!) about an Italian couple living in Bristol who had naturally-conceived quintuplets (girls) and already had an older child. Must say, it looked like bldy hard work, particularly for them mum, though she did get help from ss and I think had supportive family. It always stuck in my mind, particularly when I thought having one was hard! I remember her saying that she found it particularly hard having no time to herself: the only time she got was taking the nappies out to the bin!

Sorry about that, it wasn't much help was it?! I'm sure you'll do fabulously!

My neighbour had twins when her son was just 2 and her husband went straight off on a submarine tour, she had a lot of help from HomeStart - various ladies would come round at various times and help with feeding etc. If that operates in your area I'm sure they would be able to help - don't know how long for though.

Xena · 25/05/2005 18:54

Quinty · 25/05/2005 18:58

Get in touch with TAMBA here - the twins and multiple birth association - there may be a local group near you

GeorgieM · 25/05/2005 19:10

Don't have any advice, but just wanted to send you all support and good luck for healthy pg. This is a brilliant forum for discussing any and all probs with pg, and of course you can always talk to your doc as well. Just make sure that you have every bit of information to hand and then you can make an informed decision on any matter that arises. Best of luck.

maddyd · 25/05/2005 19:36

Quinty how absolutley wonderful. Please rest as much as you can. You think now you wont cope but there is so much support out there for you and your baies. Take care and wow, well done to you. A young mum with 5 kids will be great, bloosy hard work but great. Im actually ious of you but so happy for you too.

Welcome, i will watch how you get on with great interest.

maddyd · 25/05/2005 20:12

Just realised you are carrying 5 babies. OMG!!!! How on earth are you going to do complete bedrest with a toddler, plus you will be at the hosp just about once a week. Its going to be an exciting and terrifying 9 months for you. Did they say how many weeks you are likely to go to? Was the scan good? As in all strong heartbeats etc. You must have been in so much shock when they told you!!!!

Janh · 25/05/2005 20:16

I just went to milge's link (dead nosy, me) and found it wasn't the twinny Tamba but a commercial one - the twins one is here (it's an org)

Now I'm going to nosy round it for you

Janh · 25/05/2005 20:17

(It has a secondhand triple-buggy sales list for a start!)

Louise1980 · 25/05/2005 20:19

OMG!!!!!!!
Im feeling all sorts of things for you! Excitement, worry, nerves.

Where abouts in the country are you? I think you'd be best speaking to social services and your health visitor. I know a lass who had 6 kids of different ages, last 2 were twins though, and she got a nanny/childminder for her kids to get some help, so Im sure you' be entitled to something.

Congratulations!

Very often, nursery nurses in training can help out with multiple pregnancies....our local training college does. Perhaps give your local college and call and ask.

shimmy21 · 25/05/2005 20:23

Blimey - all power to you and your dp!!

Did the doc talk about your health and possible dangers to you of carrying so many?

How pg are you? i don't know about reduction. How soon do you have to make the decision?
