Yes,

I had one at 40+4, it was very uncomfortable and I felt awful after it. The midwife said my cervix was still rear facing and that I was nowhere near ready to pop.

Then I had another at 41+1, it didn't hurt at all and the midwife said thats how it's meant to be. Labour started an hour later.

Should have said, different midwives each time.

Yes I think whether it works and how uncomfortable it is depends on how ready you are anyway.

With dd I had a sweep at 41 weeks, hardly felt it, mw said everything looked perfect. My waters broke that night, went into labour 2 hours later and baby born 2 hours after that

wow craftynclothy, thats quick. I hope it's that quick for me.

yes, had one on the tues eve and within 24 hours started labour. 24 hours after that dd born.

however another lady in my antenatal group had one on her due date and still went 10 days over!
