best not, IMO unless dh has a scrupulously clean willy and you have given yourself a good wash too - of course this may always be the case, but you know what I mean

I think it does increase the risk of infection, not sure to what degree though.

was hoping it would get labour started, but if its not there to protect the baby anymore... is it really advisable??

and don't forget semen contains prostaglandins, the same substances used in inducing pessaries

(would you both settle for hand-jobs? )

I would have thought it was OK too, as long as your waters haven't gone. Might get things started off too. Why don't you ask your midwife? She'll have heard the question before, I'm sure.

My midwife told me the prostaglandin in semen worked better when ingested, rather than applied IYSWIM hehehehe!

dabhip - As others have mentioned it is fine as long as your waters are intact. Plus the mucus plug can come out in stages.... like mine did over a coupld of weeks. DH had I had sex twice, 2 days apart at the end of my 2nd pregnancy purely to get labour going (well that was my motive anyway, DH was quietly grateful ). Worked a treat! 1st time had a small (tiny!!) bleed, went to labour ward, 2-3cm dilated, but no contractions. Sent home and told not to have anymore sex!! Day and a half later.... thoroughly pissed off that I wasn't in full labour..... grabbed DH again. In hospital 2 hrs later and I was 4cm dilated.

Personally I wouldn't as you may be at more risk of infections.

Will he take much convincing? I denied DH sex throughout the whole pregnancy..... that way by the time you need their sperm again... they are raring to go!!!

dabihp · 23/05/2005 14:08

I think maybe as I am billing it as a way to get into labour it might be putting him off a little.... also, logistically, who knows at this stage even if its possible...?lol

dabihp - There are a few positions that are very possible.... one in particular that can help turn the baby too if it's lying posterior....

Toothache · 23/05/2005 14:12

Thats the one!! lol Suzywong!!

Although its more knees and elbows if you're as big as I was!!!

It was a good position to ease my SPD too. Don't really care how it was for DH!!
