Bra Shopping?!!

Hi all

I usually wear nice underwired cotton bras from M&S Per Una (comfy and cheap). Bought a maternity bra which is so unflattening and uncomfy, anyone know any good shops for bras that aren't too expensive as I'll need a bigger one soon!

I just found some in Debenhams by Dr Miriam Stoppard - def has more shape and hold than the mothercare ones i tried. DH approves too !! Different patterns etc.

Didn't like the Mothercare ones I got with DS1 and not convinced they measured me right either. Got my nursing bras from NCT (excellent but on the expensive side - mind you, you generally wear them for longer than maternity bras).

This time have gone to John Lewis. Much happier with the fit and they have a budget range (about a tenner each). Not glamorous but functional!

Maybe try Debenhams online - I got Miriam Stoppard ones last week but they only had them in one style (cotton with lace trim in a twin pack of one white, one black for £20 at my local branch)

When do you have to buy your first maternity bra? I can't remember from ds1.

I remember that you're supposed to stop wearing underwired as it can affect milk ducts - but thats about it

Bravissimo are great if you're willing to spend a bit!!! I opted for the Mothercare sale range instead They're very pretty but incredably comfortable too!

I am new to this being pg lark, so have NO IDEA about maternity bras and stuff. I will be reading this thread with interest!

I am only 9 weeks, but went to M&S for a look at their maternity bras for the future, I even tried 2 of them on. Not very impressed, will have to look around at other shops to see which ones have nice patterns and colours.

I spoke to the women working in M&S about me being pg and bras and stuff. I had heard somewhere that you aren't meant to wear underwired bras during pg, but I assumed that meant when the bump was big.

M&S women said that she advises women to wear non-wired bras as soon as they find out they're pg..... surely this can't be right????

I am still wearing my normal bras as so far my boobs haven't changed a bit.

Congrats TakeLovingChances I wore underwired bras until I got quite big (think it was about 7 months).

Bravissimo told me that you can wear underwired for a while but you have to be careful about your boobs changing size so you need to be sure they fit. TBH after the advice I've been given in the past by M&S I would never listen to them again!

I spoke to my MW about it, and she said as long as the under wired fit correctly and you're comfortable in them, then wear then I tend to spend a lot of time in bikini tops in the summer anyway, so was quite willing to opt out!

I live in NI, we don't have Bravissimo's over here Will ask my recently pg friends to see where they got good quality nice bras from when they were big.

I have all this in front of me to look forward to.

At the minute my current bras fit fine, will see how things change as the weeks past.

Just make sure that you're comfortable Hell, if its more comfortable to walk round without one on, do it! I know I do in the evenings because of the back ache

I lived in sports bras for the majority of my pregnancy, just got my first nursing bra from M&S this weekend just gone. Matalan do a decent cheap range of sports bras (for £3-£4!), so it doesn't cost too much.

M&S told me they don't usually recommend getting your nursing bra until you're 38 weeks. Yikes. Mothercare told me 36 weeks.

Ugh, I can't imagine going shopping at 38 weeks... Its bad enough at 25!!!
