is is possible to ask to be scanned at a different hospital?

where i am do not tell you the sex but one fairly near does tell you. is it possible for me to ask to have scan there?

Really??? Why won't they tell you??? I think you can request treatment at any hospital now???? Maybe wrong. A private scan I had was about £60 I think. You can have a blood test from 6 weeks now to find out gender!

you can always ask.

But if you are already booked into a particular hospital which holds your pg records it's unlikely they would send you to another hospital for your scan just to find out the gender. You would probably have to transfer all your antenatal care to that hospital.

It's more likely that you would have to have a private scan.

mumofmonsters i am quite aware of that thankyou

scottishmummy i found out with my 2 dd's and i felt that i was able to bond with the baby better in pg as i suffer with ante natal and post natal depression. i wld go private but just not a option at the moment.

my dh wants a suprise so i will go by him this time around....just don't feel prepared at all

madmissy - have a sneaky look! Or ask lots of questions like, what bit is that, if you think you see something. Then at the very least you know you're looking at the right area to make a guess

I was dying to know with mine because I was sick of using "it" as a pronoun - I'm much happier now I'm able to say "she".

lockets i can't afford it at the moment like i said before i found out with my 2 dds and actually that was with babybond lol!

maybe tell that reason to your consultant -it's a perfectly valid reason...they are usually happy to help (well i'd hope so anyway!)
is it the consultant that does your scans? i know in our hospital it can be...but then again they don't mind telling you the sex in ours hmm.

hey maybe you could use the health in pregnancy grant to treat yourself to one if the hospital are not willing to comply

Unfortunately if they won't tell, it's PCT policy and there's very little you can do...

Lucky - I had a sneaky look at my 20 week scan and was convinced my baby was a he... when I went for my gender scan the consultant thought otherwise!

Missy - I've loved knowing the gender. Perhaps Mummyto2boys suggestion about the HIP grant might work?

We dont get told either as its a blanket policy across the board where I live.

Also some one said a blood test tells you the sex of the baby errr no it doesnt only a scan can do that and only if the baby is facing the right way for it and legs open as some can be sneaky and not do so.

I know certain areas do tell the sex of the baby but wont say its 100% though as they dont want to be sued. If having a late scan then you would see what it is. I did as I had a scan at 36 weeks as they thought the placenta was lying a bit low but all ended well there.

dolly, i have had several late scans and last week ,finally decided i might like to know what it is - she said they couldnt say as it was too cramped in there!! and i got a telling off as it was a well-being scan

will be having a close look this week!

lol yes the grant is good idea forgot that!

i will ask the consultant but i don't think they will go for it

its the amnio test that people get mixed up with with telling the sex but obviously thats not a common occurence

Some sonographers will be more open to making a suggestion than others, even in a hospital with a 'not telling' policy.
When you are having your scan, chat casually about how you found out both times before and it really helped you bond with the girls with your depression and that its a shame the policy has changed. You could bring the conversation up by asking if they know the reasons why it changed?
Then say 'I've got a feeling that this one is a girl too' and just leave a silence and look at the sonographer.
Worked with friends of mine, the sonographer subtly let them know the gender 'oh i wouldnt be so sure about that'
You might be lucky to get a sympathetic sonographer too!
