If you have pre-eclampsia in the 1st pregnancy whats the chances of getting it again?

I am 13 weeks and just been working out if i got pre-eclampsia again at the same stage i did with dd i would be in hospital right over christmas

Was just wondering if you have had it once do you usually get it again? And if you do get it again are you likely to get it at the same stage?

Duckit and Harrington (2005) say that having had pre-eclampsia in one pregnancy increases the risk of getting it in the subsequent pregnancy by sevenfold. I suspect the timing would be approximately the same. Sorry - I know its not want you want to hear. Fingers crossed that you won't!

I had pre-eclampsia last time and looked it up - I think the risk goes up to 1 in 10.

Not sure about timing though. I was very lucky in that I was term before I started showing symptoms. Good luck. I hope it's not..

I was told 1 in 4. I was one of the people who got it again.

I got it much earlier the 2nd time, and suffered more (perhaps because I had to run around after ds1 and couldn't rest much). Had from 34 weeks with ds1, 26 weeks with ds2.

I think I do. I had a horrible time last time mostly down to the midwives not giving a feck and I'm not sure I trust them to actually keep a close enough eye on me or DC2 to ensure a happy ending. Was definitely more luck than judgement last time and I don't want to push my luck again.

A nice calm section would let me avoid the scary bit and just get my baby safely.

"Your risk of developing pre-eclampsia during pregnancy goes up if you had pre-eclampsia in your previous pregnancy. Compared to a woman who hasn't had pre-eclampsia, you're nearly eight times more likely to develop the condition. This will vary for everyone and will depend on a number of things such as how serious your pre-eclampsia was before and when you developed it.

If you do develop pre-eclampsia again, it's likely to be less serious than the first time. It will probably also occur a bit later in your pregnancy, usually by about a couple of weeks. "
