3 mc now pregnant, Should I be taking anything to stop mc again?

Hi, I am pregnant again after 3 mc in a row and was wondering if anyone knows if I need to tell the doctor as I wasn't sure if i should be taking something to try and prevent aniother mc. Any advice really appreciated x

Hi Lizzie, I have no idea about whether you should take anything but just wanted to wish you all the best. I really hope this all goes well. I am about to have my third mc and it really sucks.

Have you spoken to your doc at all about being pregnant? I would have thought after 3 mc you are def due some sort of extra care.

Loads of luck and hope the rest of your pregnancy is dull and uneventful.

So sorry for what has happened.

I had two in a row and wanted to increase iron intake. But it's bad to take too much apparently. So instead I had something called "Floradex". Can you ask your doctor about it? Just to make sure it's ok.

hi lizzie,sorry to hear what youve been through.I have only had one miscarriage and am pregnant again.midwife told me to take a supplement called yodocefol...because it contains amongst folic and potassium,vitamin B12 which she said is important and to take it throughout preg.

I was told and have read that some miscarriages can be caused by a lack of vitamin B12.......

i would definately mention it to your gp.my midwife said it was imperative to be told about previous mcs so you can get extra care if needed.

i live in spain by the way so i dont know if "yodocefol" is used in the uk?

thats not unhelpful, Thankyou very much for the advice, i will ask my doctor and see what he says about it.

I will also take the advice on sitting and lying when I can.

sorry i have no idea how to put link on. i typed lack of vitamin b12 and miscarriage into yahoo and it came up with quite a few sites......

lizzie after 3 miscarriages you are probably eligible for referral to a recurrent miscarriage clinic to investigate the cause - so even though you are now pregnant I would ask to be referred to the consultant team asap so you can get proper advice on any additional medical care you may need

Hi Lizzie, sorry to hear about your MC's. I assume you're already taking some sort of pregnancy multivitamin with folic acid etc, so you know your body's getting all it needs? I'd second what Alana says about getting referred. Also, if you tell your GP sooner rather than later he or she might well refer you to your Early Pregnancy Unit and they may well give you an early scan (I had one at 7+2 this time round, after a MC in March).

congratulations on your pregnancy lizzie. I had two mcs back to back and my gp suggested I could go to our EPU (it's self referral so he didn't have to make appts for me) every couple of weeks during the first trimester for a scan. They were more than happy to do the scans, esp as reassurance scans have been shown to help those who've suffered recurrent miscarriages, as stress can play a big part.

Hi Lizzie like you I am pregnant after 3 MC's in a row the last one being in March. I was referred to see a specialist after my third one and I was told to take 75mg of aspirin every day with my next one which I am now doing and I will be 6 weeks tomorrow which is the furthest along I have been. I am also taking the pregnacare vitamin.

Sorry to hear about the mcs, I'm also pg (22 weeks) after 3 mcs in a row. I was also wondering whether you'd been referred for tests after the 3rd, which would show up whether there's a clotting issue or such. Please don't take anything that isn't prescribed by a doctor (except paracetmol for pain) during the first trimester.

My tests didn't show anything and was put down to 'bad luck'. So far, all is well with this one. You need to see a GP/MW so that you can have rubella antibodies, iron levels and blood group tested a.s.a.p. Fingers crossed that this one stays put .

Do I need to see gp to ask about aspirin or is it something I get over the counter? I really want this one to be ok. I can't go through the heart ache again. xxxx

So sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I have had 2 miscarriages, one full term pregnancy and I am currently pregnant about 12/13 weeks.

My doctor has put me on the baby aspirin and also progesterone. I will find out tomorrow if they have made any difference as I will be having my scan.

As the others have said I would speak with your doctor about what s/he thinks is the best treatment for you.

As with HappyBump i was prescribed baby asprin and progesterone supposetries the next time i got pregnant after multiple miscarraiges.

But please don't take the word of random strangers on the interweb - please go and speak to your doctor and seek professional advice.

I agree with Deemented.

My doctor also advised that I was not allowed to take anything (except the folic acid/pre-natal tablets) to support the pregnancy until we saw a heartbeat. I had a scan at 6 weeks and a heartbeat was detected.

I was prescribed baby Aspirin after my 3rd mc and my baby is sitting here with me now. It worked for us.

Definitely speak to your doctor. In my experience, it was useful to get my progesterone levels tested. Ask your doctor to take a blood test for progesterone - if they're low, they can help raise them.

The problem with a lot of these things is that there is no consensus of medical opinion about causes and effectiveness. A lot of areas won't do routine testing of progesterone for recurrent mc because, as yet, the experts can't agree whether low progestrone is a cause of mc or a specific symptom in that mc.

The same for aspirin, not enough medical consensus to say 'yes it works'. You should also avoid it if you have someother medical issues such as stomach problems or if you're taking some other medication so check before taking it (and only get the low-dose if you do). I tried it (the mc clinic could not say one way or the other whether it might work) but it caused me really painful heartburn so I stopped before i even became pg.

Definitely see your GP to see what the advice is in your area as it seems to vary widely.
