Why is it always at weekends?

I started bleeding last night - brown with a little clot n a little red. I had just turned 12 weeks yesterday and was going to start spreading the news today but now Im scared. Had a bit more brown blood today and feel a bit of discomfort in my abdomen - Im not sure I would even notice this discomfort if I had it when I wasnt worried/pregnant etc. I know I will just be told to wait to go to GP on Monday or go to A & E if Im worried enough today if I phone NHS direct but this is not an option with 2 year old DS with me and DH away with work until Sunday night. Any suggestions?

To be honest I would just go straight to A&E- (having done that twice now- first with pregnancy that ended in MMC at 10 weeks) and second with this pregnancy with suspected ectopic (which now seems okay- am 11 weeks).

Is there anyone who could look after your DS- or could you take him with you?

Bleeding in pregnancy can be everything and nothing but always best to get it checked out IMO. Look after yourself and fingers crossed its a good outcome.

Oh no, things like this always happen to me at weekends. I had a similar thing at 10 weeks, happened on a saturday and i went to A+E. They wouldn't do anything and just said i had to wait until monday. We booked an appointment at a private clinic for that saturday afternoon and paid £100 for a scan. Pricey but well worth it, really put our minds at rest. Mine turned out to be a sub-chorionic bleed, just a small clot type thing, seperate from the baby and this cleared up a few weeks later. Hope you are ok.

maybebaby23 what a shame they wouldnt give you a scan- both my A&E experiences have resulted in scans (because at least you know one way or the other then) and lots of monitoring and support- guess it depends on the hospital?

I know, the midwives ive seen since can't believe it either. The doctor at a+e took my blood+wee sample and that was it. She wouldn't do anything at all despite us practically begging! She just said scans are only done if its an emergency like ectopic. She said it obviously wasn't, seeing as i wasn't in total agony unable to walk and seriously....hmm i know of people who had ectopic with hardly any symptoms! Hopefully it wont happen again but if it did i definately wouldnt leave there without a second oppinion. We were going on holiday the very next day so it just seemed easier to go private quickly.

Tried to book private appt earlier but was told I couldn`t be seen until Monday morning. Really against taking DS to A & E with me as have a friend who did that and she said it was distressing experience on everybody all round. Bleeding seems to be easing off, but DH has managed to get the ok to finish work in the AM tomorrow so hopefully I can get myself down to A & E to get looked over then. Thanks to all for their advice

Unless they can scan you at a+e (our scan dept closes for the w/e) I think I would wait until Monday unless you began to lose a lot of blood.

There probably isn't much that they could tell you at a+e that you don't already know so without a scan you would be unlikely to be any better off than you are now but have the hassle of the journey and wait.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. The not knowing is unbearable.

Just to update - scan showed baby fine, apparently bleeding is common at 12 weeks as this is when placenta takes over and there is a real big surge of hormones (I never knew this and have never heard anyone else mention it either!!!). How long will my resolution not to panic over every symptom last?

Great news... it is typical that these things happen at the weekend. I had my first mc on a saturday morning. I rang my sister to ask her advice as she'd had an mc before, and she said if I went in to A&E they probably wouldn't scan me as there are no sonographers in over the weekend. In the end I went in to the EPU on the monday and it was all over by then, absolutely nothing left in my uterus to see, it was like I'd never been pg. My bloods were even back to normal, HcG was below 5 by Monday morning. Luckily the mw there didn't think I was just a loon who'd made the whole thing up!
