I'm 34weeks pregnant and we're waiting till the baby is born to find out whether its a boy/girl, however today the midwife guessed and said she thought it was a baby girl?

Any experience of this?

I say boy.

It's 50/50 she'll be right.

ScummyMummy · 16/07/2009 19:39

Did she say why?

When I was pregnant with dc2, my gp told me I was having a girl - he said it was something to do with the heart rate

He also said I'd be lucky if the baby would be 6lbs at full term.

I had a boy - 8lb 4oz.

I think midwife was a bit cheeky to offer her opinion, since that is all it is. Not based on medical fact, just opinion.

50:50 - that's the way it goes!

laughalot · 16/07/2009 21:16

Isnt a faster heart beat supposed to be a girl

loisstella · 16/07/2009 21:37

Girls heartbeat is faster than a boy's. Most midwives I know (especially the older ones) are pretty good at this 'game'

maxbear · 16/07/2009 21:52

Well, research has shown, that antenatal measurements of fetal heart rates......give you a 50:50 chance of getting the sex right.
It is totally an old wives tale.
