OMG every day someone says something along these lines.

I am getting fed up of it.

I must be a whale.

The lady on the checkout in Sainsburys last night, looked positively shocked when I told her that actually I am not due till the end of Oct.

One of the mums at school asked when I was due and I said 'end of oct' and she said 'WHAT?!!' so I repeated it and she just couldn't seem to take it in.

All the time people say, 'are you sure it's not twins?' 'Is one not hiding behind the other' etc etc.

I def feel big, at my last midwife appt eons ago she didn't measure me and just said I was 'fine'.
This is my 3rd pregnancy so I know you can get bigger quicker, but this is crazy!

If I carry on growing at this rate I am scared at how big I will end up.

It's amazing how insensitive and rude people can and will be isn't it!!

I had the same from about 20 weeks & it's my 3rd pregnancy and up until a few weeks ago I wouldn't have said I was any bigger than with the other 2. I am all out front this time though and friends say you can't tell I'm pg from the back. As I'm now well od I guess baby's had a bit of a growth spurt and got major tight skin and huge bump so I'm slathering on the bump cream

Luckily all the Mum's at school have been so supportive, they just cume up and give me big hugs and say it won't be much longer now. Then, there's this one dad who's a complete arse and has gone way past they 'twins' comment and has moved onto the 'there must b 6 or 7 in there', hmm, your so funny!

Worst comment I got, which looking back isn't horrific, just caught me at a bad time. I was in a local newagents which I use all the time and the old trout who works in there was studying me hard & said, oh not long now then? I tried to ignor her and stuck my head further into the craft mags, but no, she said it louder so I just had to say, no I'm actually 36 weeks. She was insistent I was ready to drop and went on & on about it & said she'd get the towels & hot water ready. Why couldn't she just have left it alone when I said 'rather grumpilly' that I was 36 weeks (yes I was fed up by that stage already ). Anyway, her loss cause I made some comment, put the 3 mags back on the shelf and walked out!!

Still, these comments should make us all much better people and remember how we felt and not do the same to other mums to be in years to come

helips · 14/07/2009 19:30

Sometimes those comments don't end even once the baby is born! I remember my brother saying to me 3 days after ds was born 'are you sure they haven't left one in there?' ha bloody ha!!

mrswee · 14/07/2009 19:59

I don't know which is worse, I am pretty hugely pregnant, almost 7 months now and really big, waddling around....
Yet I still have to point it out to some people!!
Which surely means they just think I have suddenly become massivly obese over the last 3/4 months??
I mean my bump is all out front, I was a bigish girl to start with but I thought I looked obviously pregnant.
It does ofend me and has made me feel really selfconcious about it!

maxbear · 14/07/2009 20:19

I am 12 weeks and last week one of my colleagues (a midwife!) thought I was 20 weeks. I dread to think what she would say now as I seem to have doubled in size since last week. The worrying thing is the number of comments I have had about 'does twins run in the family' (mainly from midwives )No they don't but haven't actually had my scan yet...

princessmel · 15/07/2009 10:25

Suwoo, I have put some uo to date pictures of bump on profile....

2 comments yesterday. One from a grandad at school (who I do know) and one from the caretaker in the park (who I know as well).
Both 'not long now, almost there, must be twins' type comments....!!!!

Maxbear, I am a twin, which is why I think people do the twins comment so much!

verytiredmummy · 15/07/2009 10:49

You know what? I reckon this is because people don't actually see that many 40-weeks-pregnant women. On TV shows all pregnant ladies are teeny and obviously most people leave work at about 36 weeks before they have that last, massive growth spurt. So lots of (stupid) people think that a 30-week bump is as big as it gets. Ha ha.

Maxbear - I am 13 weeks with second and definitely have a bump about the same size as I had at 20 weeks last time. I was convinced it was twins, but it's not.

phdlife · 15/07/2009 13:19

that's a good point VTM. Same for all the ads in magazines and even, ime, various pg health books. I remember reading them and thinking "as if!" from about 30 weeks

suwoo · 15/07/2009 17:36

You look beautiful- ignore the twats! You don't have a big bump at all, you look really neat and lovely and slim everywhere else.

The people commenting are just jealous. My DH is a twin, so I got all those twin comments too. Yawn.

princessmel · 16/07/2009 11:17

Thanks suwoo

Now I am looking at those pics I deffo don't think I look about to give birth!

I can't understand why everyone seems so sure that I am ridiculously oversized though.

Just collected dd from nursery and one of the mums came over and said ' Oh princessmel...I feel so sorry for you, you look full term' blah blah and more of the same.

!!!!!!

Well take it from me, you don't .

JRocks · 16/07/2009 13:42

Oh thank god, I'm not alone! I'm due end Sept and am getting all of these comments. And what makes it worse is the same people make the same comments again and again. FFS! My friends, too, have said you can't tell I'm pregnant from behind, it's very much all out front and I have tiny hips. It's exactly how I carried DS, so I'm not as worried by the comments this time, but they still upset and anger me. I know I should just nod and smile and be thankful for my lovely bump, but fgs a bit of decency wouldn't go amiss at times. I mean, no one would say 'aren't you fat?' out of nowhere.

I also hate those looks of pity 'oh you're going to be at your biggest through the summer, you didn't time that well did you?' Actually I'm bloody grateful to be pregnant, as one of my close friends is having conception problems.

Uh oh. Think I'm V hormonal today

mosschops30 · 16/07/2009 13:42

I think its 3rd pregnancies. I am due beginning of Nov (23 weeks now) and am mahoosive, like suwoo in her 27 week pic, although looks worse because my bump starts right under my boobs, at least you have a gap, which makes you look thinner

at scan they said baby is perfect size for dates so have concluded am just a big fat hippo!

The woman at checkout on sunday in sainsburys said 'ooh how old is that one, and how old is that one, ooh and another, was it planned' I cant believe I answered her, what a fecking nerve

mosschops30 · 16/07/2009 13:44

have just looked at princessmels pics and am positively that you also have a gap under your boobs which makes you look as thin as suwoo, youre both all bump

suwoo · 16/07/2009 14:20

Mosschops. I am significantly fatter than princessmel! I'll let you into a little secret- I am holding my boobs up .

I am wearing a full on underwired boulder holder to support my 34G's. I don't do non-wired.

Where are your photos eh?

mosschops30 · 16/07/2009 15:43

oh god no, I dont do pg photos. As soon as its over Im going to forget I ever looked this horrensous

suwoo · 16/07/2009 16:02

They're nice to look back on though.....in a kind of oh my fucking god way?? Non?

mosschops30 · 16/07/2009 16:54

Yes I suppose but will not be posting mine on MN for the world to see!

suwoo · 16/07/2009 16:56

Yeah but it will only be me looking...

princessmel · 16/07/2009 19:44

And me

I spoke to the midwife today and I am seeing her next week, she said she'll measure me then. I haven't been measured atall yet.

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 17/07/2009 11:02

I was brave stupid enough to get on scales this morning, and it wasnt nearly as bad as I thought. Have put on 1 stone and 3 lbs which I can live with

sleepysox · 17/07/2009 11:39

I don't often post on MN- but I just had to give sympathy and also say that this keeps on happening to me too. I have been asked 4 times in the past week if it's twins.

I'm 28 weeks and everyone assumes I'm ready to pop at any second. It has really been getting annoying. I was measured by the mw yesterday and the baby is the right size for 28 weeks. It is my 2nd baby though, so my stomach has forgotten what muscles are.

On Tuesday I was in the post office and a lady asked me my due date (9th Oct) and then asked if it was twins, I said, 'No actually, it's quads' The lady backed away everso quickly. I did feel a bit naughty- but who cares? I could have asked her when hers was due- as she was certainly 'well covered', so I think I was quite restrained!

suwoo · 17/07/2009 18:00

I've only put on 2 stone 5, which I am delighted about with only 13 days to go. I went out last night for a meal and have put a new photo on here- I think I look quite good considering. Put it on FB, and got all the 'OMG you're massive' comments.

Yeah, yeah, whatever.

princessmel · 18/07/2009 10:03

Suwoo you look great! And with 13 days to go it would be unusual if you weren't a little bit big Did you have a nice night out? We went out too, for a pizza for my bil's birthday.

Yesterday I saw a school mum who had been on holiday for 2 weeks. I was preparing myself for a 'huge bump', 'massive', 'too big for 26 weeks' comment...but she just said 'you have a nice bump'!!! I was pleasantly surprised
