Ideas for baby shower gift?

Hi All,

I am attending a baby shower for a friend this evening...

Does anyone have any gift ideas for me - preferably things I can pick up in the gap between work, getting petrol and getting there. There is one small gift shop in my village, plus a big Sainsburys!

I'm only 21 weeks with my first, so I can't imagine what might be an appropriate gift! Do I get something for her, something for the baby?

Stupid question I kwo but I have never been to one before.

Thanks in advance

I woould have loved a hot milk voucher- sexy maternity lingerie- however- bra's start at £35

So another thing that my mates got me is they went and got me baby toilitries a big box full- nappies, nappy wipes, nappy bags, baby bath, nail scissors, scratdh mits, nappy cream etc- sainsburys do all that

I like to do theme gifts - so maybe bath stuff - start off with a cheap baby bath/support and then do a towel, flannel, shampoo, soap, etc.

Or maybe safety/grooming stuff - baby scissors, clippers, thermometer, nasal aspirator, brush, comb, etc all in a little basket

You could do summer stuff for next year - little swim suit, swim goggles, sunglasses, sun hat, sun screen, beach towel, etc.

Don't buy HotMilk if your friend has bigger boobs than average. They only seem to go up to DD/F in a lot of styles.

I did a basket thing for my friend.

It consisted of:

a pack of bodysuits
a pack of babygros
a pack of muslins
a pack of bibs
a baby poncho towel
a few packs of baby washcloths
a comb
one of those dummy medicine dispensers
a medical/safety set thing which included scissors, clippers, nasal aspirator and a few other random bits
a few pairs of gap socks
scratch mitts
a couple of hats
a blanket
a teddy
a rattle
some nice organic baby shampoo and bars of baby soap from boots
a pack of cotton wool pleats
a tube of morhulin nappy cream (found it to be a miracle on DS and give it to all new parents)
a packet of newborn nappies (although your friend may be using reusables?)
a nice box of chocolates from a chocolatier
a bottle of champagne

I would say practical things. For eg: bibs, can never have enough, muslins also v useful, bath towel, blanket - v useful for lots of different situations.

Cuddly toys are nice but you end up with loads of them and they just sit there really.
