getting a date at 7 weeks?

Hi all,

Is it possible to get a date of conception from a 7 week scan and a due date? How accurate can they be with the dates? or can this only be confirmed at 12 weeks? Will they allow anyone to have a 7 week scan?

I think they can date a scan fairly accurately at 7 weeks, but our EPU always prefer people to come in for early scans at about 8 weeks as it's a bit more accurate, and if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks it's a much better indicator of a viable pregnancy. I had a scan at 8 weeks and they confirmed my due date then. It didn't change when I had my 12 week scan so it must have been pretty accurate.

hi, i had a scan at 7 wks according to my dates & the scan dated me at 6 wks, i then had another scan exactly 4 wks later & was dated at 11 wks. When i asked i was told 12 wks is the most accurate time but they could be anything up to 5 days out.

I had a scan at 6+1 weeks, got put back 5 days at 12 week scan, and then another 2 days at 20 week scan. A weeks difference in total from my first scan at 6 weeks.

As for the being allowed to have a scan at 7 weeks, unless it's private, then it's not routine unless there is cause for it, i.e possible miscarriage/complications.

I had a scan at six weeks and my due date worked out at between 1-3 days before I'd worked it out to be, then I had a scan at seven weeks (when they saw a heartbeat)that put me 4 days after I thought. I think the twelve week scan is the best indicator. Only got scans because of risks, you don't want an early one really , besides the earlier you are = greater chance of TV scan
