Plus Size Maternity Clothes

Has anyone got any suggestions for plus size maternity clothes? I am having trouble finding clothes. I have tried to just get clothes one size up, but it means that they're to big everywhere else appart from the belly!!!

I tended with summer go with simple straight skirts on elasticated waists from Evans and then maternity shirts if I could or just the next size up in shirts from Evans also. Having said that I did not have a very big bump.

Dorothy Perkins do maternity clothes for up to about size 22 I think (my saviour!). I went for the same things as eidsvold, Evans but plus one size, and stuck to elasticated things. Sold all my clothes after ds was born as wasn't planning to get pregnant again - now I am going to have to have a spree for my holidays!

thanks for that! I went to evans and got a summer outfit, also went to a discount store which sells different shops items and found some stuff. I checked out the Dorothy Perkins website but the maternity stuff went up to 18!! will try the store, maybe they have more sizes there. I rally seem to have probs with trousers! My size doesn't fit tummy and if I get size up, they're too big on the legs, which does nothing for my "figure".
Oh well..... not too long to go, will have to see how it goes. Got a few weddings to go to... Hopefully I'll find something other than a "sack" to wear.

I have yet to find a solution to this problem. Buying a bigger size in Evans has helped, but as you say they hang every where else then. I try to get things that will be suitable for breast feeding afterwards, 'cause Evans isn't cheap! I went in the other days looking for a dress and was told that they don't really sell them anymore because women don't really wear them ...! The french children's mail order catalogue, Verbaudet (spelling?), now sell maternity wear and some of it goes to a 22.

I'm beginning to feel that maybe larger ladies aren't meant to get pregnant (I am expecting my 3rd)!!!!

Next do a 20 in maternity. H an M do loads of stretchy tops and stuff that grow with your bump (and back down again, I have a top on today that I wore whilst pg - ds is 21 months!) - drawstring trousers???

I think there's a gap in the market here, ladies...

Asda have a maternity range, I think they go up to 20 or 22.

I understand how you feel champs! Evans etc. for bigger sized works for only so long and as soon as you have a decent size bump you really need maternity wear or you will look like a tent. I also vote for Dorothy Perkins - cheap, fairly flattering, good range in the bigger city stores and they definitely go up to the larger sizes (I should know!!) They do some pretty elasticated waisted long flowing summer skirts that would look good for a summer wedding and not break the bank, I bought a lovely linen style one with matching top for a wedding. They skim the waist and make your legs look longer (tricky job if you are anything even slightly like me!) - worth a shot and a lot cheaper than many shops offering maternity wear. Do stick to maternity wear rather than bigger sizes - you will look and feel a lot better.

Zoe - I agree about H and M as they have lots of cheap trendy maternity wear - the only problme is that my local store does 90% in xs size and 10% in small or rarely (probably by accident) as medium. I collared a sales staff and she said (rather snootily) that they cater for the younger pregnant woman who tend to be fairly slim and wanting cutting edge trendy fashion that only works in the slimmer sizes!! I was sooo annoyed and embarrassed. Wished I could have instantly replied with all those retorts that went round my head for the rest fo the day. I am considering writing to the shop manager as it really upset me. She might have been honest but her tone was very sarcastic and derogatory. Obviously not being a size 10 and no longer a teenager (or in my twenties) means that I shouldn?t enter such trendy shops...shame as I love the childrens clothes so begrudgingly will still go in.

major prob am approaching 17 weeks and now in need of maternity clothes im a size 20n trousers and i cant find any that r really good value
was thinking about getting a pair of those trousers with the stretch panel across the front as hopefully they will last until im full term
jus need to find sum for about £20
any ideas

H&M are generally pretty good value although I'm not sure about their sizing.

Oh stripy I would have written and informed about their appalling customer service. Although you would buy your children's clothes there - you will obviously not be spending the amount you used to and look what word of mouth does Stripy... they can't afford to lose our business can they.

I figure ask and badger them to get it in - they may then start stocking more... Not sure where you ladies are but I found H & M in Bluewater Kent brilliant - along with the Evan - different styles/range and more than my local ones.

I know there is a company on line for plus size maternity clothes and I have been trying to remember who they were....WIll try and find out who they were.

Rachel - you can also buy what is called a Belly Belt - originally from Aus which lets you wear your normal trousers with this insert that attaches to your trousers/jeans. Try www.thebabycatalogue.com (?) I think.
