Ive been having braxton hicks for a while now but since yesterday ive been having really sharp pains in my abdomen and underneath in the urterus area they are really uncomfortable and take my breathe away when they come. I was awake most the night with them and it also feels like im sitting on the babys head sort of feeling. Went to the midwife this morning and she tested my urine blood pressure ect everythings ok. she said to rest and if it gets unbearable to go to the hosiptal to get a check. She said it could be everything getting ready and the onset of premature labour or just painful braxton hicks which could continue for the rest of my pregnancy!!Just wondering if anyone has had this at this stage and what it turned out to be???

Hi, didn't want to post and run, but it does sound strange, you did the right thing by going in to get checked. Do the pains come and go at regular intervals like braxton hicks? what are they like? are they like period type pains, or being stabbed in the fanny with a knitting needle type pains?

still not feeling right they are not stabbing pains now just a constant period like pain which build up stronger and die down again about every half hour.and wierd pressure feeling underneath its uncomfortable to walk feels bruisey and dragging also when i go to the loo for a wee a lot of pressure and stronger period pain. been sitting resting all day hopeing it will fade.

Bumping for you, maybe someone else will have some ideas.

How are you feeling now?

Have you had any other signs that labour might be imminent?

AT 31 weeks with DD1 I had a very small 'show' on the Tuesday. I was anxious and called the MW who told me to rest and come see her if anything else happened.

Nothing else happened but baby didn't seem to be moving as much over next few days.

Two clear signs of imminent labour but MW did not recognise them as such as it was so early.

Baby arrived on the Sunday morning!

If you are unsure, I would suggest calling MW or maternity unit - perhaps a scan can check what is happening inside.

Oh and DD1 had a brain Haem, lived in NICU for a month and is now perfect! If it does all mean premature labour get to hospital for the steroids - mine didn't have time to work but they can make a huge difference to lung function.

Hi well managed to get some sleep last night could barely walk to the loo in the night it hurt so much when i stood up and felt like the head would emerge.woke up this morning most of the pain has died down this morning just got this sharp pain underneath and shooting through my virgina now and again.Going to rest again today and see how it goes i think if it gets bad again i will ring the hospital. DYSGU when your baby was born at 31 weeks did you have him virginally or c section and did you have these sharp shooting pains through your vagina?

I had bad pains at around 30 weeks and it turned out to be a UTI even though my urine was clear. My midwife said I was OK but I went to the GP who sent a sample off and put me on precautionary anitibiotics and everything settled down. If I was you I would probably get yourself down to the docs rather than just relying on your midwife.

I have been getting a sharpe shooting pain under the bump which only lasts a second or so, i'm 31 weeks, its only when i seem to move in the night, because it only last a few seconds i have just put it down to ligament pain as i'm starting to get bigger.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/06/2009 15:31

Agreed, I would get to the doctors if you can for a second opinion. Good luck.

loganberry - hope you're OK

Bettybets i remember horrible shooting pains when moving in bed during 3rd trimester. A pillow under the bump helped.
