MPearl · 23/06/2009 22:46

thanks, johnworf & mrsboogie - good respnses!

johnworf · 23/06/2009 22:48

mrsb I remember just after I had a MC when I was 40 telling a so called friend about it and them saying something to the effect of it 'probably being for the best at my age'

I got the usual 'are you mad'? and the favourite, 'what? at your age?' And these were comments from friends and family.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. As mrsb says, give them some sarcasm

Hello ladies

As a very infrequent visitor to the 40+ thread, I'd like to add myself to the 'imminent newborn' list - I'm 39+2 with my first, at age 43! Bricking it, to be honest...

mrsboogie · 23/06/2009 22:53

I've had a few "are you mad"s alright but they are more down to the massive age gap between DS1 and DS2 than my age. I honestly wouldn't give a flying toss what anyone thought.

johnworf · 24/06/2009 06:53

Morning all. Welcome herbaceous. Not long left for you then? Wouldn't worry about it afterall, bit late to change your mind now isn't it?

Looks like the makings of a glorious day here. Planning some gardening this afternoon as we have soft play this morning (yippee).

Just had a quick look at the ink painting the Yank did of DH last night. It's really good. Now, just need a space on the wall for it to go DH taking him to the airport at 8am and then he's on to Poland.

ermintrude can you please hold on until Friday as that's the day I have you down to sprog? Mucho appreciated [wink

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU....hegepig ! Hope you have a lovely day.xx

morning everyone

tadaaaaaaaaaaa! HAPPY BIRTHDAY hedgepig - hope you manage to have a restful day today.

herbaceous - don't worry about the birth - really, you'll be fine. Just remember big wide mouth (when you breathe out)= big wide undercarriage to let the baby out

MPearl - welcome and, as others have said, stuff what anyone else thinks/says. I'm 42 and expecting No4. DD1 was planned at 22, as was DS1 who I had at 39 - closely followed by 2 accidents at 40 and now 42! All the more to pay for a decent geriatric home I say!

jw - looks like you'll get a good day for gardening - it's forecast to be another warm one.Enjoy the peace and quiet of your girly time wiht K.

EstherOnions - welcome and congratulations! Look forward to chatting with you

ermintrude - I'm clearly not going to deliver before you so....errrr.... when you're ready eh?!

Tee2072 · 24/06/2009 09:17

good morning.

Well after a spectacular throw up this morning probably caused by spacey mummy forgetting to wind Adam, I called for DH and fell back into bed. Thank god for Paternity Leave!!

Happy Birthday hedgepig! ::helps herself to bacon butty:: Thanks iris!!

Welcome herbaceous!! Not long now, eh? You'll be fine. I promise.

erm? mpearl I was 40 (and still am, since Adam was born just 13 days ago ) and not one person has mentioned my age. The only time a doctor even brought it up was when discussing higher risk of Downs and such. If someone had? I have the Miss Manners Raised Eyebrow (TM) to fall back on along with 'And this is your business because?'

Today's plan around here is bath for Adam, phone calls for Mummy and my mum is going to defrost my 'fridge...which she mentioned doing 2 seconds after she got here, right around the time she started scrubbing the outside of my toaster......in 40 years, if Adam has just had his first baby, someone remind me of this so I can act appropriately.

jeanjeannie · 24/06/2009 09:20

HIPPO BIRDIE 2EWES!

Have a good one hedgepig produces an enormous lemon drizzle with FOUR church candles and accidentally sets fire to iris's tray of bacon butties

herbaceous Ooooo - you're CLOSE!!! Keep us posted - fingers crossed for it popping out in a jiffy!

Mpearl I didn't even have DD1 till I was 41 closely followed by DD2 18mnths later! I've been really lucky - I've honestly not had to deal with negative comments really. I'd echo what the other's say - especially like the one about wanting to follow the celebs

jw the yank sounds like a really nice guy - such a shame it didn't work out in a romantic kind of way. Enjoy soft play - you and K will have a ball!!!

stormfly hello - how are you feeling? Is all going well?

Well, we had very little sleep last night. I was up from 2-4.30 with Verity wailing. DP was in with Iris for much of the same time - I think they got all hot and bothered although Iris didn't go to bed till 10pm which is really unusual It's going to feel like a long day.

erm have a comfy night did you..........?

EstherOnions · 24/06/2009 10:08

I always find "Pss off, you personal twt," works wonders as it shames the person who has made the comment and holds a metaphorical mirror up to their inappropriate behaviour.

However, I appreciate that's probably a little too full-on for work situations! How about saying, "I'm sorry?" in that polite, querulous, forthright tone Americans use. Or say: "What do you mean by that?" While neither of these questions could be construed as hostile, both of them turn the spotlight back upon the person who has made the inappropriate comment, making them feel uncomfortable as they attempt to justify or explain their comments. And while they do try to explain, you will have time to consider your response (it takes at least three seconds to assimilate what's being said to you, and longer to come up with a response. That's why we so often think of the killer reply long after the event).

The best thing about using either of the above statements is that you won't be viewed as hostile or a unable to take a 'joke', but you will be viewed as someone who is not going to take inappropriate personal comments easily. They'll think again before saying anything else to you.

Good luck!

ermintrude13 · 24/06/2009 10:10

Happy birthday hedgepig, I'm still not giving up for plopping it out today, as MW is due to come soon to give me a supermarket sweep, but I have to say it's not likely. Wonder who'll win the bet.. for which the prize will be a virtual lemon drizzle cake and a feeling of superiority.

Iris, mmm bacon butty bloody lovely thank you. I've only just got into brown sauce and it's a revalation. You'd better not deliver before me . Cross your legs

MPearl I'm 42 and expecting ANY DAY NOW baby#3, and already have DD (11) and DS (6). Most mothers of one or two expressed a mild regret they'd not had more and have been v excited on my behalf - the list of those offering help is huge and mostly genuine - one woman I know only a little bit said that if I ever needed to work on a Friday she could have the baby then because that's her day off! However, I recently found out that several people didn't think I was 40 yet, but that only made me feel better . You do what you want to do and stuff any small-minded busybodies!

Tee would your mum like to extend her visit and come to the mainland? I've got all sorts of little jobs...

JJ we had to give the DC fans to go to sleep - they're in the roof and it's so hot even with veluxes open. Only trouble is remembering to go back and switch them off instead of wasting 3 hours electricity. Hope you catch up on sleep tonight.

Right, off to clean downstairs toilet. That must be a Sign...?

dawntigga · 24/06/2009 10:15

Waves hello from the cheap seats.

dxx

BonzoDoodah · 24/06/2009 10:23

Happy Birthday hedgepig - anything planned?

Welcome new people about to pop and those planning it.

jw - I'd go with a thick rug or spare quilt on the floor for K with a few cushions or pillows round the edge. Anything else and she's rolling out of reach anyway... unless you have one of those V-shaped pillows - that would go round her back and to the sides a bit.
We had carpets and a Davros .... but I suppose she can't sit in that all day. Oh just remembered is only us calls em a Davros ... erm ... play centre thingie ... this_thing - ours was great (bit like the one pictured but not as mad coloured) as once M could stand and cruise it opened out on one side so she could step into the middle and stand at it rather than supported but the seat.

jj I lived in Toxteth until I went to school. On Princess Rd - where all the riots were . Gave Mum and Dad a fright as when I was 18 months old (and Dad was taking Mum a coffee in bed) I climbed out of the front window and took the dog to the park.

I've got the afternoon off to help mum with M. She usually has her all day today but is talking it easy. Wondering what to do with our afternoon .... swimming? Slobbing out in the garden with the paddling pool ...? Sleeping ..... (I wish) crap night of waking and turning and both me and hubby waking hearing noises and having to investigate - but it being nothing. Sigh.

mrsboogie · 24/06/2009 11:52

morning all

Yes erm shaping up nicely for a Thursday birth -
/rubs hands in anticipation of virtual lemon drizzle and Feeling of Superiority

ooh looka like we should have a influx on newborns this week or next

tee didn't you know?? top of the list of tasks for when you have baby is cleaning the outside of the toaster and inside the freezer. Also behind the freezer if you want to be very particular

I am wondering if my propnsity forinane grins today is anythign to do with the fact that D has now slept trough form (10pm til 6.30) TWO DAYS IN A ROW!! He stays up til 10pm but we don't mind as we don't see him all day. He sits on the sofa and chats to us with that smug look that all children get when they are allowed to stay up late.

He has been out in the nursery's play yard this morning - screaming his head off not a nice feeling when your baby is screaming in earshot and you can't go to them (or shout out the window "Pick him up for Gawd's sake and stop ineffectually patting his back woman!).

Happy Birthday hedgepig

enjoy softplay jw

am v of anyone splashing in a paddling pool with theri LOs.

heron22 · 24/06/2009 12:00

herb hey! remember me!!! how are you? wow 39+2!!!! so happy for you! my LO is nearly 6 months old!

mrsb yesterday LO screamed for around 20 mins. then he was sleeping like an angel.

herbaceous · 24/06/2009 12:41

Hey heron - I remember you! I recall being very jealous of you when you got up duff v quickly on the 40+ conception thread! I finally 'fell' (ew, hate that phrase) after booking a cycle of IVF, then getting damned well impregnated in a more traditional dirty weekend in Brighton two weeks before I was due to start the drugs...

Currently obsessing about:

1 names - go for something sensible, or something that I think is cool but might be a crazed hormonal mad moment

2 whether my undercarriage will ever be the same again, or at least functional

3 how to keep the cat out of the moses basket

4 what to wear in labour, as if it matters...

Amazing what the mind can fill with, when there's no work to distract it!

Tee2072 · 24/06/2009 12:42

Wow mrsb that's great! Way to go Mr D!

Hey *dawntigga! So nice to get some new blood around here.

erm...well? And my friend Roberta asked me the same question when I told her about the 'fridge!

jeanjeannie · 24/06/2009 12:51

Oh I hope jw had more fun at soft play than I had at playgroup!

estheronions LOL@your succinct phrase! Wow - I may come to you when I'm at a loss for words! You'd have been handy at playgroup last week when I confronted a "mother-from-hell" !!

dawntiggs there are cheap seats?!! Where...I may have to move there with you - I'm all for a bit of saving! HELLO!! waves into the GodsErm Enjoy your supermarket sweep - EEeeeeeeewwwww! Do let us know if the midwife resembles Dale Winton!

mrsB Top news - Oooooo, this could be it - he may have finally got the swing of it!

bonzo I love the idea you took for the dog for a walk that young! You're making me think we should get a pooch now - as clearly 18mths seems a fine age to get them interested

tee Oh yeah - if you're mum fancies exploring the Chilterns via our house she can get to grips with a few chores here!

herb LOL@ your current obsessions If it's any help we found the cat never wanted to go into the moses basket but is in the cot like a shot

Right - may pop over to a friend's house - or may not!

heron22 · 24/06/2009 12:53

herb dirty weekend in brighton!

so, is the baby's head engaged?

names...thats a hard one!

you got your hospital bag packed?

will be back later, DH& I plus LO going out for lunch. DH working from home today.

hedgepig · 24/06/2009 13:06

helloooo Thankyou for the birthday wishes and cake and bacon yummmm, my son woke me at 5:30 BUT he was still in his cot so that was a result! We have just been for Os 8 month check, all is OK I just need to kep an eye on his weight as he is falling off t 2nd centile.

MrsB you could always write "Pick him UP!" on a paper airplane and throw it down to the play ground!

O is wailing must go

ermintrude13 · 24/06/2009 14:00

Well, despite the sweep being more painful than labour, the MW said my cervix 'isn't doing much'. And they induce at 40wks + 12 days here. Not a chance, I'll take it to 14 if necessary, but meanwhile DH is all set for 'covering' me on a nightly basis .

FloriaTosca · 24/06/2009 14:27

Nnnnoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've just read 25 pages catching up thought I had come to the end of it only to find you have started a new thread and already have written another 8!!!!!!
No chance of reading this lot before I have to teach

...I'll be back

...one day....

johnworf · 24/06/2009 14:42

Just spent 10 minutes typing a post only for the internet to go Pete Tong and lost the blinkin' lot. You'll have to read my mind to know what I wrote as I can't be arsed typing all that out again

K liked softplay and we're off to M&T group tomorrow where I hear...they serve cake

ermintrude I'm sending you a stick of dynamite to put down your knickers

OP posts:
hedgepig · 24/06/2009 15:02

Erm I think it has to be the trampoline then boing said your friend zeberdee (is that how you spell it??). I want the baby to come today, I am very low on the present front DH said he couldn't think of anything but he did look in a jewellers (he is very cunning my DH, suggesting sparkly things are possible but not actually getting them ).

Well I have just done a very stupid thing. I'm trying to remove trailing wires etc from the lounge as young O is crawling backwards now so he will be into everything very soon. So DH has a fish tank, I will put the wires in the cupboard of the fish tank me-thinks, in goes the extension socket and it was a bit tight to push the other plugs through the hole in the back so I thought I will just pull this pipe off the filter unit to make a bit more room ......water pours over the live extension socket which I grab (very stupid I now realise). Luckily I didn't get a shock although I have no idea how not. The carpet is soaked and smells a bit of grubby fish water .

JW great last post by the way I agree totally with everything you said (but lost)

mrsboogie · 24/06/2009 15:38

jw I can't believe you said that!!!

erm eeek - I remember the painful fiddling with the cervix fron my induction. Horrible. Are they going to offer you any sort of scan to check the placenta is still motoring along ok if it goes to the wire?

heron22 · 24/06/2009 15:39

floria i can never catch up either!

hedgepig so glad you did not get an electric shock! what kind of fish does your man keep? i used to keep tropicals, marines and corals.

as i am typing this, i am also looking out the window. it is such a glorious day. hope everyone is enjoying this day!
