hi herb! was thinking about you and wondering if you had baby already! ok, fingers crossed you wont need induction! if not, well, anything to get babe out safely

how are you coping in this heat?

what the heck is unfavourable cervix?

ermintrude13 · 02/07/2009 20:16

herb, a registrar who hadn't even seen me wanted to induce me just because of my age. If you don't want to be induced you can discuss daily monitoring (of your bp, foetal heartbeat, urine and bloods), so don't be browbeaten (midwives are usually more sympathetic on this score than docs, not v surprisingly). I had 3 agonising sweeps in 5 days and lo, on the 6th day, at 41+5, did give birth spontaneously and naturally. And I'd have held out til 42 wks. Good luck with it

Trying not to think of the poor woman on bonzo's July thread. One of my recurring nightmares. It would make me cry at the best of times; now that milk has come in I'm in floods imagining if that had happened on Monday instead of a happy birth story. Hope other July ladies aren't too anxious about it being repeated, but they must all be distraught on that family's behalf

talking of milk, it's being demanded, must fly...

jeanjeannie · 02/07/2009 20:46

Evening all...the humidity is ridiculous...the girls are going wild!

herb OOooo gosh - how exciting/scary!! You must be feeling yuek! Do keep us posted LOL@an 'unfavourable cervix' - not the most glamorous sounding things to have!

jw Verity has been sans clothes all day apart from going out to pick up Iris. I have noticed though that the heat rash on her back is terrible - doesn't seem to bother her though. LOVE the Observer pics btw...gorgeous..and you look OK too...arf, arf

erm sounds like you're in full swing milk production. Offered Verity a bit of boob tonight and she promptly fell asleep...ah, I think nork time is coming to an end!

johnworf · 02/07/2009 20:51

Evening all. We're the same here jj with the heat/humidity. K is still without clothing but not complaining. Thanks for the (almost) compliment Actually, I was thinking that people will start talking. It seems I only wear one item of clothing; a green flowery blouse. It's on every pic almost.

As for Verity's rash, not sure what to recommend. I'm bathing K every night at the mo. Lashings of Oilatum and then grease her up with the Epaderm cream. I've had to as she has a dirty ring around her neck by tea time with all the sweat!

ermintrude sounds like you're having lots of milky fun in your house

Where's mrsb today?

herb I really don't envy you being pregnant at the mo

BonzoDoodah · 02/07/2009 21:09

Oh herb good luck for the induction ... hope it doesn't come to that and the "all that" you euphemistically referred to has done the trick

ermintrude and Tee sorry to mention that bad news when your hormones are so unstable ... the least thing made me cry at this stage so sorry to give you something bad to think of.
It's just so shocking and terrible .... everyone's worst nightmare ... and reality ofr some.

jj wonderful news about Iris enjoying the nursery - must make you feel great.

I was at work today but as the day wore on I could feel my cankles growing and my legs getting twitchy and my hands swelling. By 4:30 it was unbearable (i can't leave til 5:15). I marched up to my boss and demanded he let me go home before I kill someone. Fortunately for him he let me go ...
I rushed home and got my feet up (using an industrial hoist) and lay on the settee sucking lolly ices ......... relax.

iris66 · 02/07/2009 21:13

herbaceous - don't fret about induction. I was induced with both DS' and it really wasn't that bad (or I wouldn't have requested one this time at 40+1). When are you being induced btw is it wed? I'm in on Tues. The protocol here is to sweep a couple of times & try to rupture membranes (or give prostin if cervix really not ready) then a last resort is synto drip (I had synto with DS1 & just rupture with DS2). Remember YOU ARE IN CONTROL! You can say no to any/all procedures if you don't want them and ask what is CLINICALLY necessary (and tell DP too so he can fight your corner - write what is and isn't acceptable to you, unless absolutely necessary, down). BTW the best way to ripen your cervix is lots of sex - as advised by my consultant (loads of prostoglandins in sperm apparently) Also, do talk to the MW when you get to the hosp and tell her how you feel. I was really nervous when I went in but, once they knew I was nervous, the MWs were really fab and sympathetic. DS's was a particularly good labour (which is why I don't have any issue with induction this time )

jw - of being able to put LO to bed in just a nappy. I daren't. He'd be out, over the stair gate & down the stairs like a shot! We're just having to ride the heat here in a light grobag (thank goodness for the temp drop tonight!)

bonzo - I cried. lots. wish I hadn't looked and thankful that I never joined the Jul thread. Just too for words.

jj - we're expecting a girl (according to scans - DS1 has other ideas )
Thrilled for you that Iris had such a ball at nursery

ermintrude - could have done with you at DS' pre-school induction on monday. A mate was telling a tale (in front of 2 staff) of a family who has 3 children then went on to adopt & foster 6 more - I threw in a "jeez, that's good, I can't stand my own let alone anyone elses" ha ha ha type comment to be met with an icy stare and an "I assume you're joking" from one of the staff . FFS 'tis very good pre-school though - outstanding at ofsted - despite humourless staff!

mrsboogie · 02/07/2009 21:33

now then all

Been busy today sorting things out - got a big week next week I think at work (it will probably be on the news) and I decided I could not be fooked with another boiling day at work so I am having it off tomorrow!

Looking forward to listening to you on WH tomorrow jw

Got in from work and DP was affixing a fly screen to the back door as we need to keep it open at night and great big moths keeping flapping in. Then he was seized by a moment of industriousness and sorted out the untidy back yard. Then it was bath and bed for the little man and here I finally am!

Haven't caught up on the news so will away...

hedgepig · 02/07/2009 21:45

just back form my 1st School governors meeting, a bit shell shocked I had to read things and think, which I haven't done for about 9 months. Anyway they seem like a good bunch, not quite sure waht I have let myself in for.

JW speaking of K getting her nappy off. O was very interested on the velco on his nappy cover today he didn't manage to get it off but I think I may have to get some popper wraps.

Bonzo how awful for that poor family, it is just unthinkable . Glad you got let off work early.

MrsB I will keep and eye out on the news (should I be worried)??

Herb not long now either way If you don't fancy sex you could always get DH to make a deposit (so to speak) and apply with the trusty turkey baster .

JJ good news on the pre-school.

mrsboogie · 02/07/2009 22:14

hallo hedgepig I have to confess I don't know much about being a school governor but my sister has told me that I MUST do it and if and when she has a child she WILL be one at said child's school. She is involved with a big construction project in the Luton area - the Govt's rebuilding schools thing. She is v senior in the project and has to do presentations to school governors - I think she reckons they hold a lot of sway.

re next week - I have no idea -I hope not!! Tuesday will tell...

jj good news that Iris enjoyed her day!! sounds excellent.

very sad about that poor woman on the July thread - it's so awful that it was just such a simple thing to go wrong.

hedgepig · 02/07/2009 22:35

being a governor seemed like a really interesting thing to do to help the school and to understand how it works rather than just standing in the playground slagging the school off. I'm on for 4 years so plenty of time to find my way. That is very foresighted of your sister planning to be a governor before she has children.

bed time, have a good day off tomorrow. I got my letter from nursery about planning setting in visits for O for when I go back in September, Going back to work is getting close ekkkkk

iris66 · 03/07/2009 08:28

morning hideously sticky night (with DS1 talking/shouting in his sleep for most of it ) but we've now a lovely drizzly, cool morning

jw - -looking forward to hearing you later on

mrsb - oooh next week sounds interesting! Have you anything planned for your day off (I never really used to [guilty bad mother emoticon] we just used to slob

hedgepig - are you a teacher? The governors meeting stuff sounds quite daunting. Are you back at work full time in Sept?

herbaceous - did the acupuncture and "all that" work?

Apparently my brother's coming up for a flying visit on monday evening seems he can't wait until I've actually had the baby! My mum and sister are up from monday too for a couple of days to cover childcare for the induction - only one missing will be DD .

Bonzo - glad I'm not the only one suffering mad late pg hormones - I keep getting bursts of terrible angriness about the most random of things. How are the cankles today?

FloriaTosca · 03/07/2009 08:44

Hedgepig good on you for becoming a governor....dhs uncle was one for 20 yrs and a major force for the good of the school and all its pupils, not just when his sons attended.

Alex only woke once last night (still wanted up at 5.40 but we cant have everything I suppose)so I think it must have been the heat that had him shouting for me every 2 hours through the night since Monday.
It is pleasantly warm here this morning and it is fabulous to look out on the newly flattened expanse of soil that is our garden...the heavy machinery left last night much to Alexs dismay; he had even started singing a song of his own composition entitled 'digger' (interesting melodically and rhythmically if a bit lackng in form and sadly devoid of vocabulary as the lyric consisted entirely of the word digger repeted ad infinitum ) but the important thing is that it is dry and not a quagmire. We now wait a few weeks to see if any weeds come up...then we can kill 'em and turf the whole area... not very interesting but usable and safe for Alex and we can add a boarder or two when time and finances allow.
Shower time now for us I think...hope everyone has a fab day and the cooler weather is suiting all you pg ladies and the litle ones

BonzoDoodah · 03/07/2009 08:46

Iris laughing at you and your misunderstood sarky comments about your kids - I do that all the time [sigh]
The cankles were miles better once they were up on the settee. Too dam hot last night though - must have turned over about 20 times (with all the faffing about with cranes and pillows and rearranging stray body parts that needs). Be sooooooooooo glad when this little large one is out. How are you sleeping?

dawntigga · 03/07/2009 08:59

Morning all,

Am off to show himself off at work!

Wish me luck am saying can only stay for 1 hour to make it out in 1.5 hours!

dxx

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 09:47

Morning all.

After a pretty good night of two lots of 4 hours of sleep, I have cranky boy on my hands who only wants to sleep in my arms!! Time to try out the baby bjorn (which DH says makes him think its a young Abba singer )!!

10is minutes jw!!

jeanjeannie · 03/07/2009 09:51

Morning all - thank heavens for the rain - phew!

Waiting in anticipation for jw's star turn on Woman's Hour...ah....now that's REAL fame in my eyes! yep, saddo who has Radio 4 on all day! mrsB how fascinating....are you a spy?? Is mrsB your code name and really you're the next Stella Rimmington in wating

dawntigga enjoy showing your lad off

floria good news on th egarden front - if not a little sad for poor A who clearly thought the heavy machines were his new toys!
Can you tell if he's got the singing gene yet?!!

irisPMSL @ your misunderstood quip. I'd have snorted out loud....and that's why I have no proper mummy friends!

hedgepig good for you being a govenor. I'm thinking of it - but no point unless we know we're going to get into the main school. I like interfering...but hate office politics - so maybe I wouldn't be so good after all!

BonzoDoodah · 03/07/2009 10:05

Tennis!??!! Tell them to get a move on to something more interesting .... I can only pretend to be listening to a webcast for so long ... (Anyone know what time jw is scheduled to be on?)

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 10:08

bonzo I think she said the first 5 minutes, but they must have changed it with Murry in the semis.

BonzoDoodah · 03/07/2009 10:20

Oh heck - missed some of it! Doesn't she sound sophisticated!!!

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 10:20

Well done jw!

duchesse · 03/07/2009 10:31

Woot woot jw, you were fab!

johnworf · 03/07/2009 10:32

Morning all. Many thanks for listening. Switched around the play order (angry) so mucho confusion akin to the newspaper article!

BRB just settling K to sleep.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 03/07/2009 10:41

Yes, you did sound very sophisticated

So, sharing the bill with tennis bores Jean Marie le Pen's daughter and Laura Ashley's son...Well, that's the morning peaked for us!

Ooooo, Verity is trying to get through the cat flap......eek!

johnworf · 03/07/2009 10:46

Wow, it's raining cats and dogs here! Luvverly!

mrsb I am indeed, intrigued by what you are really doing at work. Is your code name Mata Hari?

tee we have one of the Baby Bjorn. I've hardly used it tbh as she goes in the car most of the time but, on the occasions we have used it, it's been most useful. I think babies like the closeness although we didn't use it until she could hold her head up. Just watch his head doesn't flop forward in it as it can restrict breathing

I would like to become a school governor. I've never volunteered at DSS's school though as I feel a bit of a fraud (that I'm not his real mum) and also, I don't like the school tbh. I plan to become involved when K goes to school though

DH listened to interview with me. Criticised the production, then that I repeated something twice in one sentence and followed it up with an 'it was ok'. He's in the dog house already though as he's told me how much my b'day present cost me and that the place where he's ordered it from can't get it to me until after 12th July Kinda spoils it all really. We're not going out now as I know that K won't settle until around 9pm in this humid weather and I don't fancy eating at 10pm. I might go to the cinema with one of the older children to see Star Trek though as this would indeed be my b'day treat

Boden sale not v good imho. I waited until midnight last night for the www.getmyfashion.com sale and that was pants too.

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 11:53

I only heard the first bit with JW was there more of you after that? My mom came in and the baby got cranky and so on so I couldn't listen to the full thing! I thought you did great though!

So far Adam hates the Baby Bjorn. He's just in general cranky boy today. I'd better go get some things done while he's asleep, as I don't think it will last long! Later!!
