Mucous plug

Can anyone reassure me that it can be ages before I go into labour after losing plug?!! Am almost 36 wks.

Can't remember ever seeing it first time. Braxton Hicks are so uncomfortable and I do remember having these for 3 days only before real labour started.

So, will I be having these for another month?Cripes, hope not but I'd rather that than an undercooked babe.

Have had BH since about 18 wks. Fine. These ones make me stop and need to keep still while they pass.

Be brutally honest ladies...while being lovely and reassuring please....

im 36+5 been losing my plug since friday. last tiem i went in to labour 24hours after losing plug but i was bang on 40 weeks. from what ive read/heard, its more common to go in to labour sooner if you lose your plug 39-40 weeks. apparently you can also grow a new one!!
no need to panic i should think, im not, though this baby is big i want it outta me!

OK I feel really stupid but please could someone explain what the plug is and when you should lose it?

i may be wrong but from what i know it to be it is a thick/jelly/mucus blob that covers the opening of your cervix to prevvent from infection. you can lose it before labour, during labour weeks before months before! sometimes its a sign labour is coming soon, sometimes not!

I am 36+4 and I have been losing my mucus plug bit by bit for the past four days. I have read and been told by the MW that the baby could still come on time even if you lose your Mucus plug four weeks before the baby is due. In all honsety it's the same plug you get with every cycle during the infertile period.

The baby is still protected in the womb and can quite merrily hang around there for another 3-4 weeks without a risk of infection. It's only if your waters break or you have other signs of labour when you need to contact the hospital or your midwife.

WowOoo, be prepared for your baby to come, but don't be worried. Even if born now he/she will be fine.

My DS1 was born at 35weeks after a week of very uncomfortable 'braxton hicks' which turned out to be early labour.

If you are having such discomfort and you have lost the plug, it is a real possibility you could go into early labour, but then again it could still be weeks away.

My community midwife is impossible to get hold of!

When I rang labour ward felt like i was just being silly asking Q's.

My concern is that I need to get ready as I had a couple of days of mildly uncomfortable BHicks and then 3/4 days of really uncomfortable Bh's with ds1. And, that I don't feel mentally prepared yet for this at all.

Only just packed my bag and done very rough birth plan!

Think that's pre-labour/early labour.

So could ease off but I am getting prepared. Nice to know he should be fine if he comes soon....
