Braxton Hicks question

Are braxton hicks one of those "you know what they are when you feel them" type things? Or can you have them and not realize it?

I've been feeling tightening across my stomach pretty often today. But it sort of feels like it does when the baby rolls around a lot except I'm not seeing the movement when I feel the tightening like I usually do.

From my own experience and talking to friends it seems that this is something that varies from person to person. I had tightening across my stomach. It felt very hard and quite crampy. Some of my friends seem to have far stronger ones than me, while others were barely aware of them at all. How many weeks on are you?
