Scans at local hospital or chosen hospital further away?

I will explain the confusing title - I want dc2 in the same hospital as dd because it is sooo much nicer then our local hospital (5 mins down the road). The nice one is half an hour away.

If tell my midwife at my booking in appointment that I want to go to the nice hospital do I have to go there for my scans or do I still go to my local one?

It will be a pain to get to nice hospital for scans so if thats the case I will tell them later

Not sure, I had dd at (not a nice and an hour away) diff hospital to my local where I had my scans. Local hospital midwife led care so was not able to birth there. This time scan has come through again at local hospital but again have to give birth at the not so nice one.

So no help from me really!!

Can you not just do as I was contemplating - have all your midwife appointments and scans as local hospital and then when the time comes turn up at the other after all they can hardly turn you away?

I have to say my decision was to do with fuss in local media but since then I have visited local hospital and realised that their maternity care is outstanding and that is something that is never mentioned on TV just the bad things in the report.IYSWIM

With dd I had everything at the local hospital and had to argue with the midwife to change me to the nice one!! She said it was a lot of paper to do!

I think I will mention at my booking appointment that dd was born at nice hospital and that I may decide to go there this time. Hopefully they will be nicer this time if I change at 20 weeks instead of 34!

Down here (Cornwall/Devon border) you are supposed to select your hospital that you will give birth in and then everything is done from there so that they have all your notes etc ready when you go in IYSWIM.

However, as has been said I guess they can't turn you away when you are in labour and make you go back to your local hospital? Might just be more difficult for them from not really knowing you and your pregnancy?
