Just had 28 week scan baby has a small head!!!

Hello hope some one can make me feel a little better. Just been for my 28 week scan where I was told although she's growing well she's still quite small for dates and her head circumference is slightly smaller then it should be.
They have booked me in to see a consultant in three weeks, and although they reassured me it was just to be on the safe side I'm now im panicking thinking somethings is wrong and there not saying anything!!
Was anyone else told they have a baby with a small head......!!!!

I was never told that - but my baby's head circumference was apparently 9th centile at birth but 50th by 6 weeks

So I guess head size can accelerate pretty fast?

I was told exactly the same at my scan yesterday! I am 25 wks and had a growth scan due to problems with my previous pregnancy ( had poor blood flow from placenta to baby and my daughter was born by CS at 36 wks), my placenta is again not working too well, but baby so far has grown ok, but I was told that the head circumference is a bit small. I obviously started panicking, but the consultant told me that he is not concerned as everything else seems ok. is your baby breech? He told me that sometimes breech babies have smaller heads due to slightly lack of space. The brain structure was normal so that was reassuring in a way! I would try not to worry too much, I think that if they had seen something that they thought alarming they would have told you.

Thanks M78, no she's not breech had her head is down and her feet are up by my ribs. They said everything else was as it should be r.e growth(even though shes small), there was enough fluid round the baby and my placenta was working fine. Just the head thing.
I think im just being a bit of a worrier and i should look forward to seeing her on screen again!!

Small head sounds good to me!! Sorry, that's probably a bit flippant isn't it. I'm sure if they really thought there was something wrong you'd be seeing the consultant quicker than 3 weeks.

I worried like hell because DS2 had abnormally short thigh bones at the 20 week scan. He was absolutely fine and has the thighs he is supposed to have! I think sometimes the measurements are difficult to take and give a distorted picture, or else the baby has growth spurts of head/thigh/whatever and catches up eventually. I hope you get some reassurance in three weeks, sorry you have to wait and worry in the meantime.

I had that yesterday at my 20 week scan too. The baby was sitting on my cervix with her back facing outwards, so some of the heart measurements couldn't be done anyway, and we have to go back in a few weeks too.

I asked whether the head measurement was something to worry about, and was told no, not really. I also figured that they'd want me back sooner if it really were something to be concerned about. The brain measurements were all fine.

My DD2's head measured small too. I was quite worried and it shadowed a bit my last few weeks of pg. She is fine, though, 20 months old now, nothing wrong.

My ds2's head circunferance was on the 9th centile at 38 weeks (he had sme very odd measurments!). He was born 2 weeks late, still with a small head it was either the 3rd or 9th centile. No one was worried, the health visitor just came to check his physical abilities and alertness a couple of weeks after he was born.

He is six months now, his head has gone up the centiles, but is still below average. He just has a small head.

Didn't make labour any less painful though .

My MW told me that all the different bits that they measure (head, tummy, femur etc) will all grow at different paces - I'm 33 weeks and Tiny has measured variously with a comparatively small head, and a comparatively small tummy (long long legs tho!) and they are not worried as long as it all seems to be going in the right general direction

My baby's head showed up as too small on the ultrasound, but nobody suggested any further tests. It was still undersized at birth, the baby had a telltale rash and is deaf in one ear. It appears that I caught the CMV virus and passed it on to my otherwise healthy baby, causing microcephaly and permanent damage to its brain, including learning and speech impediments, character change, calcifications and who knows what else to come. Nobody tells you this, but if you test negative for CMV, you must take precautions against this risk. The virus is transmitted through bodily fluids (saliva, urine), and the most likely cause of infection (also in my case) is from toddlers, esp those in daycare. Everyone tells you what foods to avoid, but nobody tells you never, ever to share food or eating utensils with your toddler while you are pregnant. Please help to raise awareness about this devastating infection and how to reduce the risk of catching it!

I'll be having growth scans to check head size as I may well have been exposed to the Zika virus in the month I conceived.

When I was pregnant I was told my babies head is a week ahead in growth!

I'm on my 15weeks and was informed that my baby is of high risk for DS 1/67 based it from maternal serum screening. How accurate would that be? I'm so worried. Can anyone share their own experience. Thanks 😭😭😭

It's hard not to worry but they are just being cautious. I had growth scans throughout my first pregnancy as he was very large abdominally with very short legs and a big head. Turns out he was a perfectly proportioned 9lb 6. Second one was supposed to be a whopper too turned out to be 7lb 12.
