2nd miscarriage at 14 weeks... after reassuring scans...are my fibroids the problem?

I miscarried yesterday, sadly the day after my previous pregnancy's due date. Scarily both miscarriages occurred almost at the same time (the first at 14wk 1 day, this one at 13wk 6days) This miscarriage was preceeded by a few days of bleeding and clots. However both my 13 week and a scan the day before MC indicated baby fine and heart beat fine. I do have large fibroids (biggest 13 cm) and wonder if my baby just cant compete at this point?? OR maybe my uterus got carried away in expelling the clots and accidentally expelled baby? Does anyone have a similar experience?

Fifiya I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I really do think your losses warrant a full miscarriage investigation. I have heard that rarely fibroids can result in second trimester miscarriage but I also think they should be checking you for clotting disorders etc. Even one miscarriage at that stage after seeing healthy grown and heartbeat is very unusual.

The type of fibroids that may affect pg / fertility are those that change the shape of the uterine cavity (submucous) or are within the cavity (intracavitary). I understand they can affect blood supply to the foetus and it may be worth asking if its possible to remove them. Please ask your hospital for a consultant's appointment or ask your GP for referral to MC clinic. Are they doing any tests on the baby you most recently lost?

Hi Owlingate, thanks for your post. I am under specialist care ( who recommended I just try and get pregnant again after first MC as she didnt think it was fibroid related..just age etc) However I am curious as to her response after this one( she is away so wont find out for a few weeks grr). But by this time the histology results for my baby should be back. My fibroids are all outside the uterine cavity and the biggest one seems to have recently pedunculated (grown a stalk). My attitude right now is get the **$%#@ers out! But I am usually a holistic girl before surgery option. They do just grow back apparently, and my experience of trying to shrink them with diet (cutting out dairy,soy etc) found that the minute you get pregnant they grow again anyway!
I will follow up on the clotting thing with my specialist.
