Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but...how long did your LO sleep in the moses basket before transferring to the cot?

Thanks!

3 months, but then bought a crib to transfer to as it's bigger than a moses basket and we didn't want to put DD in the nursery cot on her own at 3m.

We could have bought a crib to use from the start but I had a CS and the moses basket was easier and lighter to move than the crib, so I'm not sorry even though we ended up with a moses basket and a crib.

Will move to cot in nursery at 6mo I think.

It will really depend on size of baby! Mine were big and soon out grew the moses basket.

rachels103 · 08/06/2009 17:15

Not very long...about 6weeks I think, but ds was pretty big and thrashed around a lot.

Dysgu · 08/06/2009 17:16

DD2 is still in her moses basket and she is 24 weeks old! She was 5 weeks early and will move into the cot this week sometime.

DD1 - who was 8 weeks early - stayed in moses basket about as long too.

Does depend on size though - they start off very little in my case!

6 and a half months.
she was head to toe

My DS outgrew his by 5 weeks! but we only used it in the day anyway, as had been loaned a crib to use at night.

Slept in crib till around 4 months, but again started to get rather cozy in it (kept getting arms & legs stuck between bars!)and also DH felt it was time that DS slept in his own room,so he was "evicted from crib and our room into a cotbed in his own room!

This time bought a carrycot from ebay to go with my single pushchair that I had when DS was small. Its bit bigger than the moses basket so hoping to get more use from it.

I found putting DS to sleep in different place at night/day really helped us to get a routing going.

Just taken DD out of her moses basket, she is 17 weeks.

Not long here either, maybe 3 months. Then i put the basket into the cot so that the baby would get used to sleeping in thier own surroundings.
did this for about a week i think, then out of basket and inot the cot.

worked quite well actually.

mcflumpy · 08/06/2009 19:39

sorry to hijack thread but when you moved the baby out of the moses basket did you move them to the nursery on their own?

laurawantsababy · 08/06/2009 19:40

6 weeks! Complete waste of time. When dd had out grown it we co slept.

Dc2 is due in January and Im going to get a bigger crib.

mogwai · 08/06/2009 19:43

We had our DD in the guest bedroom in her moses basket for two nights, during which my DH got up in the night to give me some rest.

We then transferred her into her own bedroom, putting the moses basket into the cot.

She stayed in the moses basket for about 12 weeks (she was very long!).

She never spent a single night in our room. I am a poor sleeper an all that snuffling and squeaking would have killed me!

Instead we kept both doors wide open, so in efect, I was quite close by.

She has been a brilliant, independent sleeper and we ha no problems simply transferring her into the cot at three months.

3 weeks! Kept waking himself up by hitting the sides with his arms. Was quite a big baby too. For the last week of using the Moses basket we put it in his cot in the nursery, then once he was used to that he slept in his cot. The nursery is right next door to our room and we had the doors open too so he wasn't far away at all.

olivo · 08/06/2009 19:49

4 months in her basket, then a week or so in the basket in her cot, with me sleeping in her room, then on her own in the cot at 6 mo. she wasnt a big baby though!

susiey · 08/06/2009 19:49

we were the same as you mogwai

can't sleep with babies in our room so had dd in her moses basket in her cot from about 5 weeks

ds( dc2) slept in the moses basket in the sitting room ( it was a flat) until we found out he didn't wake up dd so then we transfered him in his moses basket to the cot.

I think they moved out just before 3 months both times.

MrsHappy · 08/06/2009 19:49

My DD grew out of her basket at about 4 months, which coincidentally was when I decided to move her into her own room.
Her basket was not a very big one though.

littlemisslozza · 08/06/2009 19:50

meant to add - we borrowed a moses basket from a friend, and will be doing the same this time (baby due mid August). Don't see the point in buying one, lovely as they are!
