How long to start trying again after C section?

I have a four month old who took rather a long time to get here so was going to start trying again in a few months time, coming off the pill this month...but someone in my antenatal group said I shouldn't fall pregnant for a year as I've had a c section...is this true?

Why a year?

I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight..although granted, I am still overweight..so would assume this isn't the problem.

What are the specific dangers?

Any advice?

I would assume it is so that the scar tissue can heal enough that it won't cause problems once the area is stretched again.

or, it may be an old wives tale...

How is your dd by the way? I do remember you from the due in jan thread (i had to move to feb!)

i was told after the first c-section (by my consultant) that I should wait at least a year to allow my body to fully recover. My dd1 was about 18 months old when I fell pregnant with no2. I was glad I waited as no1 was quite a small baby and I had quite a small bump - no2 was a large babe and I had a large bump quite early on.

I think the reasoning is that there should not be anymore pressure than necessary on the scar.

I was still overweight when I fell pregnant with dd2 although I had lost 2 stone from when I fell pregnant with dd1. Unfortunately dh only has to look at me and I am pregnant.

My SIL had her 2nd baby by c-section last Tuesday, 12.5 months after her first baby who was also born by c-section.

I fell pregnant after c section when ds was 9 months old. Was told to wait at least 6 months but should really be a year. We decided to start trying from 9 months as assumed it would take a while - it didn't!
