I have had no swelling or fluid retention this entire pg. Was absolutely fine in the hot weather. Am between 35 and 36 weeks pregnant and yesterday my ankles were very swollen all of a sudden. I have varicose vein in left calf and that leg was unsurprisingly significantly more swollen.

Thought nothing of it, despite other mums commenting on school run as it was quite sudden onset!

This morning woke up with very puffy face for first time and swelling in ankles about the same. Hands very slightly swollen for first time. Mild headache and nose was a bit bunged up with bloody bits but no nose bleed.

So, phoned to see if I could have quick BP check but have to go to Watford Day Asses Unit which is a PITA and seems a bit unnecessary.

To top it all, have had bath and swelling in face has gone, although mild frontal headache remains.

Would you go? It means big hassle with DC school run, etc. and is half hour drive.

Pre eclampsia was what I was a bit worried about. Just not sure if my swelling is significant enough to be worried about that.

It can come on very quickly.

This baby has been a fighter, now you go and fight for you both.

Hopefully all will be well and it will just be an extra listen the the baby's heartbeat.

Thanks all for nudging me to go!

Blood pressure was fine and no protein in urine so pre eclampsia thankfully not an issue. However, they thought the swelling was significant and have told me what to watch for. Also, for the second time I have ketones in urine - this time +2 so they have told me to eat more carbs and rest more.

Thing is, I have been stuffing myself silly these last few days so don't quite get why I have ketones. Anyway, I have community midwife visit next week so can talk that over more with her if needs be.

Thanks again for replying quickly! Probably wouldn't have gone otherwise but am glad I did because I will sleep better tonight.

I feel a bit disheartened that so many people come away from an appointment not being completely sure about things though. Could you ring your midwife this evening?

wastingmyeducation, I have been drinking as much as possible. I had to go out specially for more cordial yesterday as I drank all the DC Ribena! Still feel quite thirsty though.

FBG, I agree. I am normally quite assertive but often feel in medical places that I am being a worrier so tend to try and not press issues even if I still don't feel 100 percent reassurred. Bit silly of me.

I do feel I can talk to my usual midwife properly though as she would stay all day chatting which is lovely. She always has time for any silly worries. By the way, were you prev. FA*?
